Title: 1987 stock carb Post by kstewy on 05/17/06 at 15:00:13 i have a 1987 savage everything is stock right now. my question is what are the stock jets for this carb so i know which ones to get when i do all the mods i'd like to do? right now all i have done is the white spacer mod and adjustment under the brass plug. i plan on putting a stock sportster muffler on it. i bought my savage last april and have been enjoying it ever since, but now it is time to make some changes to it. it only has 11,900 miles on it so it has all the life it that give it. like i said time to make it mine now. i will be putting on saddle bags, sportster muffler, it has a windshield on it already, and a friend of mine will paint it for me around $50 so that is going to be done also. he says the aluminum covers (where the clear coat has all come off) can be powder coated chrome easily that will have to wait till winter though. so my first start (which is the quickest and easiest) will be the carb and muffler just need to know what i have stock so i know what to change to. the model # on carb is not ledgable any more. thanks for the assisstance. |

Title: Re: 1987 stock carb Post by slavy on 05/17/06 at 15:28:38 Main jet 155. Pilot jet 47.5. If it was me, I'd do only the spacer mod-1/2 spacer or equivalent in washers , adjust the idle mixture from the screw and I'd ride the bike. If there are some problems, I'd go to the part of the carb , that controls the problematic area. Most of the posts here are about the latter version of the bike, so You should look for info about the earlier model- '86-'88 . |

Title: Re: 1987 stock carb Post by bentwheel on 05/18/06 at 05:23:18 Welcome to the board kstewy. The carb on the '87 is richer than ones from the 90's and beyond. It is due to less stringent EPA restrictions from the 80's. On your carb you don't generally have to modify the white spacer. The same result can be gained instead by moving the clip on the jet needle to a lower position. http://www.bikepics.com/pics/pics/suzuki-savage-86-bikepics-486652.jpg |

Title: Re: 1987 stock carb Post by bacon13 on 05/31/06 at 14:42:52 kstewy- I also have an 87 and am ready to do these mods. After reading the replies from slavy and bentwheel, I think I will make the adjustment to the clip and leave the jet at 155. How did it work for you? |
