Title: Just bought a 2000 Savage

Just bought a 2000 Savage with 1900 miles.  I had a few issues with the bike at first.  (Obviously its been sitting in a garage for a while, with such low mileage).

I had to change the spark plug and bleed the carb, while bleeding the carb I also had to clean the jet.  (Actually both of these were done for me as I am not mechanical).

Now it seemingly rides like a champ.  I do, however, have issues with backfire.  Anyone else have this problem?  Perhaps it is caused by premium gas?

I'd like ot get some saddle bags as well.  Anyone have some input as to what/where to get them?

The bike's jetted very lean due to EPA. Have a look in the tech section and/or use search.
I have ordered the bracket / saddlebags that are official accessories, and I'll post how they went on, once I get them. Try searching on those in here too.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome Wicks

I bought my saddlebags on Ebay
The store is called Jafrum
No supports were used
Throw over bags mounted under seat

I like the pic!  Very nice!

There's a lot of different places you can get MC stuff from on the net.  I like phatperformanceparts.com and hellrisercustoms.com as retailers.

I have a few sets of saddlemen sadddlebags.  They aint the nicest, but they are more or less waterproof and CHEAP.  Willie and max are also cheap.  If you look for saddlemen, be careful, one variation on the name is a male gay porn site.

Yep, do a search on the backfire issue.  If ya still got questions after, ask em.   :)

They only look like saddlebags, they are actually lockable paniers.  Mount on quick release studs -- 5 seconds to remove a bag, 10 seconds to reinstall.

A bit expensive at over $400, but they hold up well -- look as good now as when I got them 18 months ago.

My battery guard fell off during a ride today...:(
Have to sand it down, primer it and try to match up the paint.  Fookin sucks!
This happen to anyone else?

Yep  8) When I got home I realized what that tingtangtong noise was that I heard. If it's the chrome one and your going to paint it you should rough it up real good first. Someone here was kind enough to give me one just for postage.  ;D

1900 miles awesome, different style paint job too.

And who's that big guy sitting behind you?  :o

Welcome to the club,
Kevin
