Ok, so I went ahead and removed my brass plug out of my carb.

I decided to take some shots for any other newbies who wanted to know what to look for.

Here is the carb with a pilot hole drilled into the brass plug, the plugs not very deep.

I used a dremel with a very small diameter titanium drill bit and very slowly almost to the point the motor would stop spinning, ran the pilot hole checking very often until I could see the begining of the brass screw inside.

then I upgraded to a larger drill and a larger drill bit, use a drill bit that is just smaller than the thread width of the machine screw you will be screwing into the plug to pull it out.

when drilling with the bigger bit the plug may want to spin in the hole, just pull the drilll bit out and let it spin very fast and slowly put it into the plug, once you have made the original pilot home the widening dosent take long so be cautious.

one you have the hole widened just right take your machine screw and screw it into the brass plug as far as you can but not exceeding the depth of the plug as not to damage the screw underneath.

Attach a pair of vicegrips and pull hard, be careful not to pull the bike ontop of yourself and also be careful not to lose control of the tool as you could break a bike part or scratch something.

and there you go a nice clean easy plug removal, took about 20 min because i was very careful not to damage the screw underneath the plug.

so there you are fellow board members and newbies this is how to Get-R-Done.

If I may come with a little sugestion, would it be a god idea to copy the picures over the "our" server so the will always be there ! Its a shame that some of the pictures in other posts in Tech Ref section have dead pictures !

feel free to copy the pictures. I know for some/most newbies getting down to the "point of not return" and putting a drill bit into a bike is a daunting task.

I still need to get the spacer fixed in my carb but am still too paranoid to try, i know i need to get some SS allen headed screws but beyond that I dont know how to get to the right place on the carb or what to expect when opening it.. ie are things spring loaded and will they fly apart ect, so I havent touched that one yet.

if one fears the drill try a small#6 x 1/2 framing screw..
slowly screw in to the cap(my 06 had a small pilot hole in the cap already) when it gets snug grab haed with pliers pull and walla out comes plug..this may not work on older bikes when the cap has been there for some time...

Its a reference to a rubber plug in the head that works loose and leaks oil. It covered in the tech section.
