Post by starmom on 05/25/06 at 19:27:04

I have a 06 S 40.

is it difficult to install?

how does it attach?

Its not obvious to me.........

Would I need special tools?

I have an 03 LS650, I would like to trade my back rest, side rails bolts, and every thing it takes to add one to an S40, for the side rails, bolts and all from a S40

did the job on my o6..
things i'd do different
1) have a helper to hold side rail as you align bolts=less fender scratches
2) build the lift thingy  and use it easier if bike is vertical
but insure it is STABLE!!
3)put rubbers on bottom of backrest arms b4 you and helper (one on each side) spread them apart slightly as you slide them into side rails.
otherwise a lil gruntin and beachin and couple of brews (like havin an old vw beetle love it or hate it)
no big deal!!!get a install quote from your loco stealership....if you can turn a wrench you CAN DO!!good luck and let us know how it goes...p.s. do a search on this topic theres at least one on here if i remember..
also can p.m. me if you hit a snag..

I got one as a part of the deal on the trade for the ninja.  The dealership guys had a hard time putting it on.

I just put one on last month. a peice of cake. Bought the backrest/siderails at oneidasuzuki.com. Best deal for a new one made specifically for the S40.

Hey Thanks for you advice.....

Will take it all to heart...

Bought the parts from the "stealership" and my hubby and I will work together.  Mainly I want his advice and some help, but "I" want to do most of it........Ive always been mechanical , no long nails to worry about breakin or anything.......

The parts are made specifically for the S40.

Let you know how it goes....

Sue

We need pictures when you finish. The Suzuki Luggage rack looks nice and comes in handy.

Hi Starmom
When you add the back rest do you replace the OEM side rails?
