Title: Presenting...my running heap!
Post by WD on 06/06/06 at 17:17:49

Okay, just a few quickies. It is now close enough to summer to ride as is. Who needs a pretty bike anyway?  ::)

In no particular order, I present Pokey, reincarnated.

Fitting the Rebel fender...

And, for the why not of it, an old one of me dwarfing the bike, pre-wreck.

Like I said, it's crusty, it's funky, it's a barhopper beater. But, it runs, it is paid for and it is almost comfortable now. Nothing a hardtail frame and sprung seat won't fix this winter, unless my stepson buys the parts sooner.

Bash away!

WD I'm diggin the fender. And what's that? The fish is black! :o Right on my brutha! ;D

$60 for a new chromed fishtail, or a $4.85 can of BBQ black...

The fender is as twisted as the stocker was. Literally like the front and rear were twisted in opposite directions...been that way since new.  The bike is getting strutted in the next week or so, and a new 130/15 tire installed at the same time. Got to close that fender gap... :P

Still unsure of the final color. The metallic orange Duplicolor Metal Specks looks good in the pictures. Looks awful in real life, it alligator cracks and has solvent pop within a year. So, nobody waste their $$$ on that junk. Don't say you weren't warned.

We are leaning towards British Racing Green to match the Sweptline (1969 Dodge truck) and the Anglia wagon (1956 English Ford Squire) in the next to the last photo. Green bikes may be unlucky, but, I have enough of that color left to do it up right.

Perry, wait until you see the next one, I'm about to be given a "Geezer 2Fiddy"  (GS250 Twin) to play with, one of my coworkers just bought an EX650 and doesn't want the Suzie anymore. One of the cashiers wants a miniature Triumph made out of the GS, who am I to say no... ;D  Not sure if I want to bite off that much of a headache or not.

And I was gonna paint my bike green.  Why are green bikes unlucky?  ???

Title: Re: Presenting...my running heap!
Post by azjay on 06/07/06 at 06:42:24

in the superstitious world surrounding race car drivers, british racing green has always been an unlucky color, at least in my short 40+ years, i dont know why, but i'll ask my dad, he may know the story behind it.
wd; nice putt, i like it.

Can't imagine bashing a bike like that. You've definately made it yours - and that's the whole idea.

Ahhh yes and the most important thing.... She livessss!

Sweet dude, if I saw you go buy I'd say "big single savage, nooo that wasn't a savage"  8)

I will take a treck down on a wednesday or a thurs. when I can. Being a brick layer this is my busiest time of year though. Might have to be a weekend ride. Talk more later.

Island Biker, I'm not bashing it, my kid bashed it when he crashed it... ::)

I like the well used, cut down, take no prisoners barhopper look. Apparently, 3 of my 4 cashiers do as well, they all want to be in the formal photo shoot later in the season. Three redheads from 18-24 years old in their skimpies...gotta love choppers and chopper magazines... ;D And two of them are still arguing who will get to buy it if it hits the market.

I guarantee you won't see another one with quite so many mods done to it. It weighs less than 300 pounds, with a full fuel tank and oil sump. It has done 100+ mph on more ocassions than I can count (best speed of 115 mph).

Should be 100% finished sometime this autumn. I hate wasting riding season on build time. It WILL be riddien as it sits, as soon as I put a skinnier rear tire on it. Bent peg, mismatched paint, manual close throttle and all.

I was not really bashing my bike. at this point I have been working on the running part of the bike. It is an 87 has sat and as time and money allow I'am bringing it back to life. it is in rough shape but it is mine and hopefully when the carb upgrade and tunning is done it will run great ;D and soon as my wife gets the camara fixed I'll get picks and you will see what I mean ;D

WD -- that saddle looks wider and thinner than stock.  What is it?   I definitely need a different saddle.

Post by WD on 06/08/06 at 22:24:22

Paladin, it is the stock pan, two layers of blue camping pad foam from Wallyweird, and some scrap waterbuffalo leather. I got bored one night while the bike was down and stitched the racing stripe by hand (off center, just like me). All held together with duct tape and 10-1/4 sheetmetal screws.

Most people think it is brutally hard. I find a firmer seat lets me ride farther than a soft seat.

Vroom, they aren't rats, they are roaches, rats are higher on the evolutionary scale... ;D

Pics of the girls? As soon as it is warm enough.  Still in the 50s around here.

When you are out entertaining another woman.  I don't know why, but they seem to object to men paying any attention to any female other than themselves.

Just knowing you have been honored in such a way is reward enough for us plain folk.

I really dig the chrome trim.  Are you still running a belt on it?

Title: Re: Presenting...my running heap!
Post by WD on 07/02/06 at 10:06:19

She's almost 100% dechromed now. And I'm running an open belt for the time being. I'll convert it to chain eventually, too much like actual work right now.

Speaking of which, I'm off to the shop, I work Sundays.
