Title: Not running right after oil leak repair Post by cstout on 06/29/06 at 05:18:20 I just fixed my oil leak (the rubber plug in the head) per the instructions in the technical forum. Everything went fine and it was an easy repair. However, now it isn't running right. It backfires a lot and wants to stall when idling for more than a minute or two. When driving, it seems sluggish and less powerful. It feels like a vacuum leak but I guarantee that I hooked back up all the lines properly. I replaced the one running from the carb to the petc0ck because it was getting brittle but that didn't help any. I think the oil leak stopped so I assume the head cover is sealed OK--if there was a leak in the head cover (like it didn't seal properly) would that cause a vacuum leak? It ran perfectly fine before I did the repair so this problem is either directly related to something I did wrong or it could be an unfortunate coincidence. Thanks. |

Title: Re: Not running right after oil leak repair Post by cstout on 06/29/06 at 18:48:38 I tore it back down today to make sure the head cover was sealed properly. There were no leaks and it had a good seal. I had all the vacuum hoses installed properly. Also, I checked the plug and it was a-ok (only a couple hundred miles on it anyway.) So why would it start running so poorly after removing the head cover to fix the oil leak? I guess it must be a coincidence and the problem is somewhere else. |

Title: Re: Not running right after oil leak repair Post by Trippah on 06/29/06 at 19:04:33 While a vacum leak seems probable, it also resembles a very lean running bike- could you have kinked a fuel line or similar fuel issue? Good luck with the search. |

One is the fuel line and the other is a vacuum, right? |

Title: Re: Not running right after oil leak repair Post by Reelthing on 06/30/06 at 19:06:50 guess there's 4 lines really 2 vents, a vacuum to the petc0ck and the fuel line - this seems odd |
