Title: Finally-- Pix of the Zook, if'n you're curious!

Let's see if I can give this whole picture thing the ol' college try...

You can see my old Honda CB500T pipe and mirrors, circa 1975.

The paint is a Ford color from PPG, used in black-out parts on the Mustang (or so they told me). Still has more sheen to it than I was expecting, but looks good and is very thick-- this paint is tough.

Note the tie-down hooks in place of the sissybar and bracket on rear fender, and the Drag Specialties signals front and rear. Also note my rear lights, ordered direct from the UK. Nowhere near the quality I hoped they would be, but they still look just like I wanted them to look. Couple all this work with the K&N drop-in filter, re-jet, white spacer removal, a couple of oil changes, and the head plug fix, and I'd say 2006 has been a pretty productive year thus far.

A thousand miles a month keeps things happy in the sump!

Looks excellent. Did the honda can mount without an adaptor??

That's great.  Funny, I was thinking about finding some old Honda round mirrors for mine and was trying to imagine how they would look.  I like them!

Indeed it did. Much to my surprise.

The mirrors look good, but you can't see much in them at highway speed. Very buzzy. This might change somewhat when I get the new S40 bars/risers this winter, but I'm not counting on it. I always just look over my shoulder when changing lanes on-highway anyhow, so it doesn't affect me too much.

The 500T was supposed to be my first bike, but turned out to be pretty knackered and near impossible to repair (they were only imported for two years, 1975 and 1976), so it's nice to be able to use a couple parts off that machine in customizing my "other" first bike, the Zook.

I really like those taillights.

I find the long stems are always getting caught. kicked, or bent.

Yeah I really like the way the rear fender looks smooth with those tail lights. Nice job.

Haaa, but friend that was the point! Orange-peel is completely hot now, thanks to this bike.

Or not. Whatever.

And yes, I've greatly reduced the number of times I've kicked my rear signals as I get off the bike, now. That was a refreshing discovery about the little bullet lights.

Thanks all for the comments.

;D

I hate to break the news to you but the mirrors are "buzzy" no matter what you do. I rode a cb550 for many years and there is no fix for it. I tried everything including custom fit cushions in the mirror mounts. Just the nature of the beast.

No big deal. I'll just continue checking the old-fashioned way before lane changes.

On a slightly related note, I saw a CB550 of 1970s vintage roll through an intersection not too long ago on my way to work. Those old Hondas seem to hang onto their loks pretty well...the paint was still phenomenal orange sparkle over gold sparkle. 'Least I think it was. The ol' boy was moving pretty fast!

I used to long for mine to be resurrected, But the savage has taken over. No I long for an empty space in my garage via ebay.

The local Suzuki dealer hooked me up with that one. Our local Advance Auto Parts store is starting to carry filters and such for motorcycles, however, and I think I might've found it there at a cheaper price if I had bothered to look.

Looks great Banger! Still like my pick-up  bed liner paint job better. Get asked about it every time I ride somewhere.

What kind of muffler is that?  Did you say already and I just missed it?  It is an interesting shape.

I did say already, but it's okay. I miss a lot of stuff, myself. The can came from a 1975 Honda CB500T, which looks something like this:

http://members.lycos.nl/corrb/hpbimg/P1010001.jpg

Mine was "Glory Brown Metallic" but otherwise looked the same. This one has obviously been very well-kept. A rarity.

The 500 T was descended from the famed "Black Bomber" CB450 twin (they stroked the motor to make it a 500), which was only produced for the US market but has a much better reputation as far as history's concerned:

I rather fancy both bikes, really. Too bad there are so few bikes today that look as good.

Part of the holes were utilized to make the tie-down hooks on the sides and top of the fender. The rest was good ol' Bondo body filler, which is where you can see the slight lump in the rear fender. No big deal to me, I'll just call it "character" for the bike.
