Title: Got my fork brace today
Post by babbalou on 07/27/06 at 19:50:51

Haven't had time to put it on yet but I'll follow up this weekend after the install. It's the one from Tkat. Very nicely made. I'm impressed, especially for $90 total. I push my Metzlers pretty hard, sometimes on bumpy country roads so this should help. :)

Very cool.  We're gonna have to meet up sometime soon and compare rides.

Sure, I'd like to see your bike. I'll be doing another seat fix this weekend, after I roadtest the forkbrace but anytime after this weekend is a good time.

Got the fork brace on last night, rode today & I really like the smoother ride. Feels like a bigger bike. Doesn't feel like the front end's going to bounce loose in the hard corners. Shoulda done this a couple of years ago! :)

I remember back when that guy said he would make braces for us.  I will contact him and see if he still has some.   Very exciting!!

There is a post in the marketplace for these http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=Market;action=display;num=1153334941

Check that out, I am looking into them now.

Babbalou,

I'm planning or ordering a fork brace from Tkat next week.  The only thing that concerns me is he said make the check out to some initials and I can't get a real phone number to call him.  I think I saw where you called him.  I'd appreciate it if you would share that number.  I called the number listed on the tkat website and a woman called me back and said don't call again.  I just don't want to be sending my $90 into cyber space never to be seen again.

Thanks,

B

I didn't get his phone number, just emailed him at tkat@tkat.com & he replied back with his mailing address. The fork brace actually arrived a few days after I emailed him to tell him the check's in the mail.

Thanks.  I mailed the check today.  Waiting with anticipation.

I have an 05' but I'd already removed the dust shields when I installed fork boots last year. I could be wrong but I think you'd have to remove the shields to install the brace.

How did you remove the dust shields?  I think I should know this.  But, I don't.

Well, I wasn't sure how they were attached at first, so I jammed a small screwdriver down in between the plastic dust shield & fork, then just twisted it around until they snapped off. Before that I tried yanking them off from the top with visegrips but couldn't do it. Felt like they were glued on, just a really tight fit though.

I also ordered the fork brace from tkat, after emailing him for the information.  I expect to get it in a few days because I'm in Canada and things take longer to get through the border stuff.
