Title: toolkit?
Post by Bender on 08/06/06 at 11:23:25

I just bought a used 2001 Suzuki Savage, but it didn't come with a toolkit or a owner's manual. I'm wondering if I could get some advice from anyone here as to what I should get for a toolkit, and where maybe I could get an owner's manual.

As another question, I saw on a previous topic someone saying something about anti-squeel grease. My front brakes squeel when I brake, so I'm also looking for a way to get them to stop doing that.

thanks!

Pop the front pads off.  While you have them off, scuff the pads up a bit to take care of any glazing, then slap some grease on the backside of the pads and then reinstall.

If these are factory pads, IMHO I'd just throw them away and put SBS pads on and your squeals will be a thing of the past (still put grease on the back sides of those pads though).

Also, if you'll post this in the Rubber Side Down section, you'll get more responses.

Though mine came with most of kit (only 10 x 12 wrench & pliers & the handy belt adjusting tool included, I think I saw the kit available from Bikebandit. Least you'll get the special belt tool & a spark plug wrench that is most suitable to the Savage. On mine that fills the tool kit area but only makes for a rough selection of tools - I'll leave that topic up to wiser minds.

I'd but either the Clymer's workshop manual ex Amazon @ about $25 or the Suzuki Workshop manual itself. I own the former but know a lot prefer the latter though more expensive ($60?) Don't know where to obtain but think there is a website that only carries manuals - I know my local buddy Thumperclone told me about it - why not send him a message for it's address?

Re owners manual - I downloaded a copy of the 2002 (it'll work for yours - it works for my 1996!) into Adobe. Can't recall where I got it from - maybe just Googling "Suzuki Savage Owners Manual"????

Hope all of this helps - I think the others answered the brake issue as well as I/much in the same manner.

There is a link posted in the Technical Documents/Reference  section to a pdf copy of the owners manual.

Maybe that's where I found the manual, though think I downloaded it before I discovered this hasven of merry men (& women).

Did not know ronayers is less $$ but only ever gone to bikebandit for common parts so far.

Incidently - as stated never ordered ex ronayers, but always check freight on such issues - bikebandit has, I'm pretty sure, a flat $6, but some places start @ around that & then go quickly up to $12 to ship & go up from there.

Whichever - I advise order some oil filters, oil plug washers, rubber gromits (woof!) to go @ back of oil filter, etc. @ same time. You'll save a lot over going local dealer prices & won't bump up your freight much/if at all.
