Title: 12.5 Progressice shocks/oil sight glass level
Post by barb36jack31 on 08/07/06 at 13:27:47

I know I saw something on this site about how the longer 12.5 in. shocks changes the level of the oil in the sight glass.  Which way does ot go?  Does the higher rear end make the level higher or lower than before?  I feel like a dumbell asking this, but for some reason I can't envision it.

P.S.  A 135 mile run today and is she sweet!  Popping virtually gone, smooth bottomless range of power  and 57+ mpg. I think I have fallen in love!

You'll have to raise the front end.  Just look at the engine and see when it's back upright.

Let me restate my question.  With the 12.5 shocks in place and the bike in an upright position, will the oil level be higher or lower in the sight glass window than it would be with the OEM 10.5 shocks?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

The ass-end of the bike is raised, tilting the engine forward and raising the sightglassso that the visible amount of oil is lessened.  On mine, with the shocks set to their lowest setting, it's not in the sightglass.  I make sure the engine is visually level (or close to it) when checking my oil.  I actually use a level when changing my oil.
