Title: Re: 3rd to 2nd... bike stalls Post by luken on 08/10/06 at 12:54:40 well, I have had my bike stall like that when I didnt have a good mixture going on and... when I downshifted the revs went way low and it stalled. I adjusted the screw a little and it was fine. I also have noticed this in humid weather in the mornings. |

Title: Re: 3rd to 2nd... bike stalls Post by STLBrown on 08/10/06 at 13:29:33 I had this same problem this morning, it's very rainy here in St. Louis today. So does this mean my bike is running rich? Chris |

Title: Re: 3rd to 2nd... bike stalls Post by Max_Morley on 08/10/06 at 13:40:44 I've been noticing these kinds of concerns since early days of Bert's Savage forum in Germany. Please look at your carburetor when this happens and see if it is frosty on the outside. As the intake isn't heated I believe these bike are very susceptable the carb icing when the conditions are just right. Carb icing occurs when there is enough mositure in the air and the temperature of the metal in the carb is cold enough due to the pressure drop in the venturi. It does not freeze the fuel, only makes the venturi smaller and plug air and fuel bleeds. I had a 54 mercury sedan in college (late 60's) that did it regularly and the carb would be a big ball of ice, also had a early Chrysler K-car that did it when it was about 34 degrees out and snowing, no problem when raining. It even had heated air intake and it tested OK, but would ice. Let us know if you see ice pleae, thanks Max |

Title: Re: 3rd to 2nd... bike stalls Post by MacAttack on 08/10/06 at 17:37:32 You aren't happening to bump the kickstand with your boot heel, are you? That would do the same thing. |

Title: Re: 3rd to 2nd... bike stalls Post by Majstor on 08/11/06 at 07:01:19 Thanks all for you comments... Did not find what was the problem but going back from work yesteday and to work this morning did not have any problems. My theory is also that is partly related to humidity. Last two mornings when problems occurred was 100% RH, carb was all wet because of rain... this morning no rain and approx. 50%RH=no problems. However, got mad yesterday and changed spark plug, flushed tank & pettingy, adjusted idle rpm's (was off a bit), sprayed carb with cleaning solution, and checked most switch connections (kickstand switch was a bit dirty but ok).... maybe all that solved the problem... Also, while riding, hit kickstand on purpose several times but nothing happened and bike did not stall... cheers |
