Title: Howabout a rear disc brake on a savage?
Post by Tomohawk on 08/18/06 at 16:21:02

Is it possible to put a rear disc brake on a early savage for example? has anyone done this coolsounding mod?

Also what other eninge will fit into the engine bay? Savage's are very thin on the ground here in Ireland, and I might like to try install another engine sometime in the future. Just a thought...

Greets from summer in Dublin, Ireland.

I am collecting parts now to do a wheel swap on my Savage.  I plan on using late model sportster mag wheels which will have a disc on the rear.  So far I have a new fork set ( Ceriani ), axle, 2 piston caliper from a sport bike, & a brand new 320mm disc for the front.
The swap may require that a sportster swing arm be used in place of the stock unit.  So that creates a new challenge.

I think it will take me about 3-4 months until I have it all together.

:-/  about 85% of ones braking on a M/C comes from the front, so other than the cool factor or doing some very serious racing why would someone need a disk brake on the rear of a light wheigh cruiser?  :-/

I just won an ebay auction for a set of wheels, and the price was only $76.57  ... for both the front and rear !   ;D

One step closer to my goal of ... well I don't know exactly what my goal is, but I will know when I get there !

;)    :D    ;D    ::)

So far I have ...

- NOS 40mm Ceriani forks ($75, ebay)

- New 320 mm disc ($25, ebay)

- Nissin 2 piston brake calipers, used ($15, ebay, incl 2 calipers & mastercylinder)

- New axle ($12, ebay)

- These 2 mag wheels, used (19" front & 16" rear), ($76, ebay)

I also picked this up recently, it will go under the seat after the fender is chopped or replaced.  It is a big LCD tail-light with over 100 lights (3"x6"), and it has built in turn signals.

Those wheels alone would look cool on a Savage! 8) I've often wondered about putting aluminum wheels on mine.
