Title: bobbed beltguard
Post by serowbot on 08/20/06 at 13:42:07

Never liked the way the guard curved at the end, so I cut it off.
First time trying to embed pic's, hope this works!

Anybody know why these pic's are so fuzzy?  Original size was 120k, posting size came out 5k.

The pics are probably fuzzy because their original resolution was smaller than what you've tried to make them here.

I use a little plug-in from Microsoft that lets me right click on the pic I want and it will resize it.  I usually resize mine down to a "medium" setting, 800x600 screen rated and it works real well for posting on these message boards.

Oh, I like the bobbed belt guard.  I'm not much on bobbed bikes, but I do like the belt guard!  8)

What did you use to cut the guard down?

Hacksaw, then a bench grinder and wire wheel to smooth it. I put a touch of flat black paint on the edge to prevent rust.  Took less than an hour total, and it's easier to install now without the big curve on the end.

I really like it.  It is something I wouldn't have thought of doing and I'm glad you included the pics.

Yours looks so good I had to go check on stock.  You are 100% correct on this.  It looks right, the stock guard looks like it belongs on a Kawasaki Drifter.

Heck of a job there serowbot. Really cleaned up the end of that atrocious (spelling?) chrome mammoth. Still too much of it there for me but it looks really good. Now that you know you can do a fine job cutting and grinding, it's time to start on that fender. ;D

Wan'na copy it?  I'm honored.  Feel free!
I measured the piece I cut off at 4 1/8" if that is of any help to you all.  You can see it on the ground in the third picture.
Have fun!

nice work. I'm considering this. When will you get new tires??

Ohh... You noticed the tires did you.
I'm considering Dunlop 555's, maybe going to a 90 profile for a lower cruise rpm.
What do you recommend?  Keep in mind I'm poor/cheap.
