Title: More Rocket Sauce(Gasoline)
Post by Flugondus on 08/24/06 at 06:43:10

Hey since i am addicted to riding my savage i was wondering how i could find a way to stay on it for more than a 120 - 140. Has anybody ever experimented with how to get more Rocket Sauce onto the bike so we dont have to refuel ever couple of miles.

Either modify a larger tank from another bike or get something like the TourTank (www.tourtank.com).

Da Queen has the 2 gallon plastic tour tank on her Savage.  They have pictures (on their site, see her profile) of a bike trip last year where you can see it mounted.

The little 2.25 gallon aluminum tank looks like it would mount nicely to and behind the sissy bar if you first relocate the stop/tail light to under the rear fender lip.

That would give you a usable 5 gallons, 300 miles at 60 mpg.    I'm thinking of that and a Bill Mayer Saddle.

Lately I have been using a 1 gallon plastic gas can from Wal-Mart,it fits very cozy in my right saddle bag,on the down side if you ever buy groceries  while out riding you can't use that saddlebag, you will taste gas on every thing,ok for canned food, but thats it.   I am on a diet so I allways shop using my bike,I only eat what I can carry home in one saddle bag,you would be amazed,of course
it helps to be single, and I am,na na  naaah na

Well, Mick - I would be a little concerned about a spill (I mean you & the bike, not gas out of the can, but then resulting in the same, leading to you & said sted fireballing down the road).

There really is an easier way of putting yourself to sleep - I tried it under an artic (truck) - English for "Semi," for our American cousins, on my '61 650 Super Rocket back in '71, but luckily was thrown clear of my crushed bike.

Nah - I'd go with a metal can - they stopped fitting plastic gas tanks on 250 Baracuda's (smaller versions of BSA 441 Victor singles, for my American friends) back in the early '70s

George (not a "limey" but an East End Londoner) ;D

;D

Hey George,if you were born in England even the east end of London, in this  country USA you are a limey.
Nothing wrong with being a limey,we are the ones that discovered if our sailors drank some lime juice every day they would not get the dreaded scurvy, those were the days when England ruled the waves,Lord Nelson, and all that old stuff.

You can be as creative as you like with mounting but I think DaQueen used the luggage rack.  I think Paladin was looking to mount a larger model and is considering mounting to the sissybar with the taillight relocated to make more room.
