Title: Starter Relay Removal Post by vroom1776 on 08/24/06 at 12:34:03 Hey gang! I am very strongly considerring removing the starter relay and starter button, and replacing them with a 20 A SPST switch. Can't find a momentary one though, so I would have to close the switch, and then open it once it is started. The largest fuse in the bike is rated at 20A, so I figure I'll be good. What do you guys think? This a bad idea? V |

Title: Re: Starter Relay Removal Post by thumperclone on 08/24/06 at 13:01:32 not sure you could find a 30 amp(must allow for in rush current) push button..most relays are 30amp rated.. what are you hoping to gain?? have seen key type ignition switches but think they still use a relay and they would be a tite fit on the ls 650.. |

Title: Re: Starter Relay Removal Post by bentwheel on 08/24/06 at 14:11:04 I think a big hideous SPST switch would be really neat, especially when the sparks fly. It would certainly go with the theme of your bike. Would you mount it on the handlebars? |

Title: Re: Starter Relay Removal Post by vroom1776 on 08/25/06 at 08:34:38 No, I'm thinking of mounting it on the left side cover, or maybe on the little bracket just above the left side of the frame, under the seat where the fuses used to live... would need to make a slightly bigger bracket to accommodate the switch. Here's the switch I picked up: http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pRS1C-2160402w345.jpg Stay safe with this on/off safety switch. This SPST toggle switch includes a safety cover to prevent untimely switching. Rated 20A at 12VDC. * Ideal for computer equipment * 3-prong SPST ????? not too sure here. Well, I know how to use a multimeter! |

Title: Re: Starter Relay Removal Post by Tekumseh on 08/25/06 at 11:13:02 Where is the starter-relay placed? My starter wouldn't stop last night, and I had to disconnetct both the starter and the battery. The starter went on even with the ignition switched off. I suppose it is the starter-relay, but I'm not sure where it is placed... As you see I ain't no mecanic-guy.. |

Title: Re: Starter Relay Removal Post by vroom1776 on 08/25/06 at 11:32:25 If I recall correctly, it is bolted to the rear fender, kinda under the driver's seat. The location is not real obvious in this thread (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1099317926), unfortunately. See this recent thread (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=RubberSideDown;action=display;num=1155699064) on starter malfunction. V |
