Title: Vibration...vibration....vibration Post by SavageDude on 08/27/06 at 15:40:45 Okay, I don't usually complain about the pit-falls of our Savage; but this time I don't know if it is just me or is it normal for our dear bike's handle bar to vibrate at all speed after Sporter muff or any other muff mod? After over 1 hour of riding yesterday, my hands are tingling and numbed for a whole day! I never had this problem before the muff mod. I love the sound of Sporter muff but hate the hands' numbed feeling after each ride. Maybe MC brothers and sisters can shed some light on this issue or perhaps some remedies for this discomfort. Thanks SavageDude |

Title: Re: Vibration...vibration....vibration Post by steelwolf on 08/27/06 at 15:49:51 Is your muff fastenend to the bracket? The vibration may be a result of the weight difference in the stock can and the new sporty. Sorta like a counterbalance. Just a thought. :-/ |

Title: Re: Vibration...vibration....vibration Post by SavageDude on 08/27/06 at 15:54:43 Yes, it is fastened to the original brackets. I just readjusted the air mixture screw to get to the least vibrating feeling on the handle bar on idle. I have to see if it make any different on next ride ??? |

Title: Re: Vibration...vibration....vibration Post by Max_Morley on 08/27/06 at 15:54:57 In my experience, any loose engine to frame fasteners can cause vibrations to occur, did you have to loosen the brake/front engine support bolt to get the sporty muffler on. If so, maybe it didn't get tightened enough. Also an out of balance tire can cause vibrations, are the front forks leaking oil and not able to dampen like they should. If it didn't vibrate before, think back over what changed when you did the muffler and consider it as a possibility. An yes an unsupported muffler could cause it. Happy hunting Max |

Title: Re: Vibration...vibration....vibration Post by SavageDude on 08/27/06 at 16:00:03 No, I did not have to lossen any mounting bolts to install the Sporter muff because I had the 6" adapter hooked between the muff and the header. But I will check the tightness on all the engine mouting bolts. Thanks Max_Morley |

I installed a sportster muff and noticed no different vibration. Does it increase with speed?? I would be inspecting motor mounts. Just my humble opinion. |

I'd inspect the motor mounts and check for cracks or breaks. |

Title: Re: Vibration...vibration....vibration Post by Ed_L. on 08/27/06 at 18:21:45 I had the same thing happen two months ago. Went on a 100 mile round the block ride. Within 30 or so miles my hands were going numb, I was getting a good case of monkey butt and my right foot was asleep from the vibration. Finshed the ride but had to stop three times to walk the monkey butt off. Never did find out why that one ride was so uncomfortable, the only thing I found was that the front tire was a little low. Can't see how changing the exhaust could cause more vibration as long as it is mounted tight, check the tire pressure and see if there is any funny wear on them. |
