Post by DangMan on 09/25/06 at 08:26:43

If you could choose a bike of any desire, wich one would you choose and why !

Dont call me blasfemer, but last winter I took a closer look at the MT01, and it has been spooking in the back of my mind ever since ! I realy love the combination of traditional look with the new fresh look  ;D

yeah, that's a cool one!  Too bad they're only available in Europe... maybe CA?

I want a black triumph speed tripple, 2005 or later.

and an old HD knucklehead...  let me dig out my wallet... nope, don't have the prolly $30k for a knuck...  maybe 10k for the trump?  nope?

...digs deeper...

AH!  enough to keep my savage running!

No dought in my mind.
      A Manx Norton 500cc Single, 130 mph.
      the greatest single ever made.
the Savage has a similar rake on the header pipe, that is what drew me to it in the first place

Good choice! That's a very special bike.

My choice is a vintage 2 stroke street bike - either a Kawasaki triple or a Suzuki. I just missed getting a Suzuki 750 water buffalo for free about a week ago. It was a rusty POS ;)

Brandy-new machine? Well, I'd have to sit on 'em and test 'em for heft and fit etc., but it'd probably be a XL883L Sportster, a Bonneville America or a Boulevard S50. The Guzzi 750 Nevada is nice too!

Mint condition used Bike ... no contest! A Honda GB500TT!

i was in just this situation when i bought thumper in 04,
i had up to 20k spend, i choose to buy the savage, take the wife a great vacation, and still had 10k to spare.

so to answer the question..  a savage, because it would "bob" so nicely, and did.  ;D

ANY bike with a 5 gallon gas tank! But seriously, a Moto Guzzi Griso would be really nice. Back in reality, I'm dreaming of a used V-Strom 650 someday for rides over 90 miles.

If they ever get this one into a full production run, I'd really love one.  It's a diesel thumper.  The top image is the U.S. military version.  The bottom image is the civilian version that was supposed to start production earlier this year but has been delayed.  It's a dual on/off-road and gets 102 MPG.

1941 Indian Four.

It may not be the most reliable of bikes, but I've always loved the way they looked, and always wished I could ride one.

Back in the 40s, my Grandpa had one after he got back from the war.  He blew the rearmost piston through the top of the cylinder in the middle of the King Ranch during a thunderstorm.  Fortunately a farmer with a truck happened by and they managed to wrestle the bike into the bed.

I'm aiming for a Harley Sportster eventually, but I will never part with my Savage. I have a feeling that my red "Big Single" will be in our family for a long time to come, whether it's me riding it or one of my kids. (I have four, including two boys, one of whom has already staked his claim on it.)

just one? I'm assuming it is to be ridden & not put in a museum, so...

well, the Vincent is nice, but you'd need a ton of $$$ for parts/upkeep; the Manx Norton too, but only if you raced it - really impractical on the road. I too like BMWs (wish I had a GS1200 for where I live - lots of dirt roads & mild offroading - rather than a RT1100 - which finances & a new(ish) bike - the Savage - encourages me to sell). Surprised nobody chose the BSA 500 Goldstar single - an old "hot" single you could use on the road.

I'd like the 1980 Yamaha SR500 single roadbike I had back - the 1961 BSA 650 Super Rocket too!

A 1969 Triumph Bonneville (arguably the best year/looking one) would also be nice, though after reading up on Bonnevilles seem they always had trouble right up until they stopped making them years later (no, not Lucas electrics - never had trouble on the British bikes I had), though this sounds like the little bugs (yes, I've - still - got the oil leak - getting round to it once I have the courage up).

Actually, I like the Savage - with better brakes (I've upgraded), better forks (I'm happy with stock & a Superbrace), belt drive (hey, what do you know!?), better than stock tires (could not afford Metzlers so have got Dunlops), better rear suspension (saving up), lower bars (swapped out) & no oil leak (like I said...) & last not cruiser style (why I'd like the SR500 back), but you can't have it all...

I only ever saw one Savage before I saw my one - years ago - & said I'd really like one (ie a new large not offroad/enduro single) - if I ever saw one for sale @ a good price. I did!

So - maybe the Savage is my dream bike - small, light, enough power (I don't need to race along an Interstate) & able to whip through the bends with lots'o'torque.

I know it makes me do this  ;D everytime I ride it!

First I had a Sportser, then a Ninja, now a Boulevard S40 which is by far my favorite.  I really like the C50, but will keep the S40 forever.

You know, I can't help but notice a profound similarity between the Thruxton and that Vincent Black Shadow. Though of course none of the particulars are the same, the Thruxton appears to be a modern variation on the VBS theme.

I think I'd want either a Victory Vegas 8-Ball, or (more practical) a 2007 HD 883 Sportster- make mine black, with a better seat! OR... a Suzuki Savage with a Yamaha XS650 twin jammed into the frame- my favorite bike with my favorite engine! What a "Mod" that would be!
...I'm going to go out and start measuring....

And in 2007 (rumor has it March) this might be a choice I can make. :D

Tough decision, really do like the Harley Street Bob for a cruiser. Also like the Ducati Monster Dark, the name just sounds cool  ;D. But am happy with my Savage so looks like I've already made my choice.

Heh, I love those Tailgunner exhausts (http://tailgunnerexhaust.com/).  The barrels actually spin like gatling guns.

I require:

A single cylinder -- I require torque rather than power.
Light weight -- 400 pounds absolute max.
Low saddle -- I have a bum knee and swinging a leg over a 30" tall saddle hurts.
And I need to be able to keep up with the traffic in Los Angeles, including our freeways.  Faster than that is acceptable *only* if it does not involve compromising the first three requirements.

I know of exactly one current production bike that meets my requirements.
