Title: Re: engine Post by vroom1776 on 09/28/06 at 12:15:55 DK, Why are you having the engine rebuilt? ...and with that in mind, what are you looking for? i.e. more HP? reliability? V |

Title: Re: engine Post by vroom1776 on 09/29/06 at 09:36:43 Well, certainly I'm no expert... but if it's leaking there, you probably need new seals. You may not need to rebore or even hoen the cylinder, but assuming you have the cash, I'd do it. Since it's an 87, the cylinder should prolly be honed, at least. You may want to get slavy and lancer's opininions... I bet a 1mm oversize piston (w/ 1 mm overbore, definitely available... maybe even 1/2 mm, not sure) and the rings, and a nickasil treatment for the cylinder would really help. It's a ceramic treatment that lets the piston slide a little more freely and helps cool the engine. I know Lancer had this done. He aslo had his cam reground at the same time for a little more power. |

Title: Re: engine Post by Ed_L. on 09/29/06 at 09:46:28 Yeah, Lancer is the guru of power when it comes to souping up a Savage. Another option is looking for a newer 5 speed engine. It might be cheaper than rebuilding your's. Just a thought. |
