Went out to play with the big boys again yesterday. A mixed bunch: 2 Bandits- one 600, the other a new 650, one BMW 650 CS Scarver, a Yamaha FZ6 Fazer, even a GXS600R. Then to give us all a giggle along comes Rafael on his Burgman 125 scooter. Of course we all thought he'd be left behind at the first bend but now here's the thing. Two miles out of town we hit fog and no matter how natty the machinery nobody was taking any risks which meant 30 miles later at the first coffee stop old Rafael was first to the bar!

I'm not sure if its linked to the fog and damp though I think it might be but while on the open road the engine was running fine, as soon as I dropped to idle when pootling through a village the Lettuce kept stalling. It always restarts OK but with a bit of effort from the starter. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the motor doesn't like to idle after a run on the highway? I suppose I could just tweak the idle mix screw to up the idle revs a touch but I'd like to know why its doing this. Any Newfies or other fogbound Savage riders have this experience?

I bet yr petcock is messed up, or the vac tube to the carb has a leak. Try it on PRIme and see if that helps.

what is your idle speed set at??1-1.2 k
read a post here where the savagers air mix screw had vibrated to a different setting...

'Scuse my ignorance but without a rev-counter how do I know what revs it is set at? The last time I adjusted it upwards I just set it by ear - as in what sounded about right and didn't stall when I left it at tick over. Should I just do the same again? Is the damp air anything to do with the stalling or just coincidence? If idle speed ajustment isn't enough I'll have to look at that vaccuum hose.

funny - I always take mine off the petcock end - just never entered into my head to take it off the carb end! agree it can be a pain to get back on but always have done it with the old needle nosers.

that has always been a characteristic of the d*mned cv style carbs >:(. triumphs, MGs, austin healeys, and other european cars using the SU brand cv carbs are well aquainted with this phenomenon. dad has told me the old triumph motorcycles had the same cr*p. i am not a cv carb fan.
