Title: On The Fence about new muffler Post by mavrik on 10/02/06 at 13:59:19 Hello: Called 2 shops today about a sporty muffler or screaming eagle mod. DON"T DO IT they told me, the bike will never run properly, the muffler makes the bike sound sick, not the proper sound you want. Also it will burn more gas and I will lose power? is this accurate info? I know alot of you Savages have done this mod and seem to like it. what's the word?? Cheers |

Title: Re: On The Fence about new muffler Post by vroom1776 on 10/02/06 at 14:21:12 Yep, BS. Unless you don't rejet. Then yr bike will run like poop. Slap the muffler on, rejet, enjoy the ride. They want you to drop 14k for one of theirs! |

Title: Re: On The Fence about new muffler Post by franch on 10/02/06 at 17:27:44 the bike will feel, look, sound, and run stronger if you open her up with a nice pipe and a rejet job. it is a rewarding and gratifying experience that will last and last |

Title: Re: On The Fence about new muffler Post by georgekathe on 10/02/06 at 18:06:08 I did not go initial route like Thumperclone with hd mufflers. long story - just dislike the auction "will I won't I get it?" anxiety on e-bay & the local hd store said those who upgrade takes theirs with them (unlike some reports of other hd stores in other towns per other entries on site) I went same route directly as Thumperclone with a slash cut Hardchrome one & found in my case I did not need a bracket or anything - maybe I had a longer extension piece between muffler & header than some. the muffler bolted straight onto lug on Savage's frame. I like the sound, thoughg Kathe doesn't (she thinks anything over the BMW is loud). I did some rejetting (need to fiddle around more with spacer, maybe) & also fitted a K & N slot in filter (not sure if necessary but allows more breathing so can't be a bad thing & anyway old filter was shot). I'd like to be charitable with your bike store & say they were just mistaken & not trying to sell you a bill of goods, but... |

Title: Re: On The Fence about new muffler Post by SavageDude on 10/02/06 at 18:19:48 Does these guys even seen/hear one--Savage w/t HD muffler on. I tell you what, the route I ride which has a lots of HD riders on it always wonder what the h9ll is that bike that can out accelerate them at the stop light with 1 cylinder, do twisty almost like a sport bike, and get over 50 mpg. THE EXHAUST SOUND IS AWSOME! check the sound file in Technical Section out. ;D |

Title: Re: On The Fence about new muffler Post by Paladin on 10/02/06 at 21:30:45 I have a few videos, with sound on my site. I think they are with the fishtail muffler, but the Mac sounds almost the same, just a hair quieter and not quite as bad at setting off car alarms: http://savage.andruschak.net/FTP/Hawthorne_RedondoBeach.AVI http://savage.andruschak.net/FTP/Hawthorne_190th.AVI http://savage.andruschak.net/FTP/Hawthorne_177th.AVI http://savage.andruschak.net/FTP/Hawthorne_RedondoBeach.AVI http://savage.andruschak.net/FTP/Sunday_morning_ride_001.AVI http://savage.andruschak.net/FTP/MorningFogRun.avi http://savage.andruschak.net/FTP/MorningRide1.AVI http://savage.andruschak.net/FTP/MorningRide2.AVI The files are 3 to 22 megbytes each, taken with a very lightweight camera mounted to the handlebar. The fog ride wasn't as bad as it looks -- the camera lens was getting fogged. |

Title: Re: On The Fence about new muffler Post by georgekathe on 10/02/06 at 23:12:44 not sure if Savage dude was following what I was saying - just that I, for whatever reason, could not get one as was my initial intention until I saw the Hardchrome ones on the site here (have a vague suspicion they are Screaming Eagle HD replacements anyway). I'm certain a hd muffler is a fine trumpet to play & does the job sterlingly - seems a lot of you out there run with them, Savage dude. just not something I could get as easily as what I'm happily using now. sorry if what I said came across as some anti hd silencer thing - never heard one on a Savage so what would I know? just saying I started & ended up with same one as thumperclone ended up with. :) |

Title: Re: On The Fence about new muffler Post by SavageDude on 10/03/06 at 18:30:36 I meant the guys at the dealers--not you my Savage brother Georgekathe ;D Anything else beside our beloved or hated original factory muff will do mighty fine ;) |
