Title: Another oil leak Post by steelwolf on 10/22/06 at 09:06:10 >:( Well my shift linkage broke so I took it off to have it welded, Well while I was putting it back on I noticed that "Thing" is leaking a little oil from the left side cranckcase cover. Oh well, winter project #3. |

Title: Re: Another oil leak Post by Savage_Rob on 10/22/06 at 11:37:49 Mine seems to be losing maybe 2-3 drops a month in that area but it hasn't increased in the year since I first noticed it and the bolts are all torqued properly so I'm not worried about it. I'm not actually positive of its origins but it appears to be from that general area. I mean, when I clean it off to look, it takes so long to form another drop, I can't tell. If yours is worse and you get to it first, I'd be interested to learn where you determine it's coming from. I'm guessing maybe just an aged gasket. |

Title: Re: Another oil leak Post by steelwolf on 10/22/06 at 18:36:09 My leak doesn't seem to be all that big, but I'll check it out tomorrow when I can see it better. If it needs to be addressed I'll take care of it but I think it my be as you suggest, just an aged gasket. If so that can wait till colder weather. ;D |

Title: Re: Another oil leak Post by steelwolf on 10/28/06 at 22:15:47 Well I still haven't checked on that oil leak but it seems to be worse than anticipated. After even a short ride I get oil all over the front belt pulley cover. Not very much but enough to make me take notice. I'm in the process of moving into the new house and haven't really had time to look at it. Anyone got any idea what would be leaking in that area? Now that the oil is getting on the pulley cover I am hesitant to think it the crankcase gasket. What kind of seals are there around the drive pulley? |

Title: Re: Another oil leak Post by Reelthing on 10/29/06 at 06:18:59 well there's 3 under the pulley a real seal next to the bearing that I did not change - but the other two the oring and there is a seal on the inside at the base of the spacer if I remember correct - I replaced with the pulley a while back http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/300_0039/transmission_1995/transmission_1995.cfm?man=su&groupid=7160&parent=7080 |

Title: Re: Another oil leak Post by Digger on 01/18/07 at 20:54:02 Steel has probably fixed his leak by now, but FWIW, I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a leak where the speedo cable enters the engine case. I tossed the POS stock seal and put in a proper sized o-ring. End of problem. IHTH someone! |

Title: Re: Another oil leak Post by steelwolf on 01/19/07 at 20:10:01 As a matter of fact I still haven't fixed this leak. It's been WAY too warm to tear the bike down till this past week. IHTH = I hope this helps The leak is comming from behind the drive pully. Probably the oil seal around the output shaft. There is only that and 1 O-ring in there. Everything else is hard parts. |
