Title: dunlop 404 Post by john1652 on 01/04/07 at 17:25:30 just had www.worldofwheels6.com. install two new tires on my savage today and i was able to put about 100 miles on them this afternoon. my opinion is this: they made a new bike out of my new bike. it handles so much better than the oem - irc stuff also it seems to ride better. now i went with 130/90-15 rear and 110/90-19 front i hope the mileage is better than the irc stuff. so far i reccomend them john |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by georgekathe on 01/04/07 at 18:23:16 what I use & like - not enough miles to tell how good wear is. understand the Metzlers are even better, but cost is more & for though value my neck as much as next person Suzuki does not have power to me to warrant such a stciky tire as a Metzler (which cost more than the 404 anyway) :) |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by geo on 01/04/07 at 21:54:34 Check the price of the Metzelers at Tiresunlimited.com. I didn't think their prices were that bad. I got good service out of them. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by john1652 on 01/05/07 at 07:26:51 you still have a what?? Sissy strip?? sounds like a geico commercial. Is that what your insurance company thought when you said you had sissy strips.. very amusing. john |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by Savage_Rob on 01/05/07 at 07:45:54 I'm quite happy with my set of Dunlop 491's. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by justin_o_guy on 01/05/07 at 16:08:34 No chikken strips on the rear. The front, no matter what, the outside edge just doesn't get touched. Well, I guess I could lay it down, but that's not much fun. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by YonuhAdisi on 01/05/07 at 17:09:35 What does a Dunlop 404 usually set ya back anyway? Am looking into getting new rear tire and just wondering what I will be looking at and how much my wallet will scream from pain as I shell out the cash. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by john1652 on 01/05/07 at 17:13:15 with mine installed it cost a buck seventy including everything john |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by bentwheel on 01/05/07 at 18:34:01 I have a 404 on the rear. It is definitely not a high mileage tire. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by justin_o_guy on 01/05/07 at 21:31:17 For that coin & mileage I will stick with the ProMaxx by Maxiss. Sticks to the pavement just fine & if I am careful with the brake pedal I can get 6,ooo easy. I got 7,000 on the last one, but I think I am riding a bit harder now. Oh, & I Shoulda changed the last one at about 6,500, buut was not ready. Man it was WORE out! |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by azjay on 01/06/07 at 07:49:09 i just put a 130x16 dunlop 404 on the front of debby's harley. the tire cost $60 delivered, the bike shop did the mount and balance for $20. i took them the wheel and tire only. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by Savage Librarian on 01/06/07 at 08:18:46 If you like the 404 but want a bit higher mileage tire, you might checkout their 555. I think it was max who clued me in on it. I've got 5,000 miles on this set of them, and I can hardly tell they've been used. Granted, mileage will vary from place to place and rider to rider. |

How far from the border are you. We used to send shipments to local post offices "hold for pickup" then you would go and pick them up. Must be worthwhile, we had plenty of people (some travel 60 miles) to pickup packages. Just a thought. BTW Welcome to our corner of the Web. |

The Dunlop 491 Elite II is also a high mileage tire. It's supposed to be a touring tire but the Dunlop site's fitment guide had recommended it as an alternate for the Savage. I've got a little over 5K miles on my set and they look only slightly used. I'm not sure what the primary differences are between the 491 and 555 but I guess they're similar in that respect. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by justin_o_guy on 01/16/07 at 06:40:46 You might Google motorcycle tires, I did. Found Motorcycle Superstore. here's the free number. 1-877-668-6872 I sure like the ProMaxx by Maxiss. Someone mentioned Tiresunlimited.com, I have't checked them out. U.P.S. brought me 2 tires, 3 tubes, wheel balancing weights, rim strips, all for the princely sum of about $180.00. I had already bought 3 eight ich tire bars. Nobody else made a dime & I worked like a dog for the savings. Dang, Tires are tuff. next time I will toss 'em in a trash sack & let them warm in the sun a whilke.Don't do it while they are cold. |

Yup, I did that for a couple of months, and got a brand new $50-$60 Cheng Shin for .99˘ and $20 shipping. From Michael Andretti Motorsports no less. Waiting for a great deal on a mate for it now, then in spring I'll have new tires for really cheap. However, a local independant shop here offered me a set of Dunlop 404s mounted and balanced. Ride in and ride out for $250 taxes included. That's a pretty good deal I think. Mighty tempting too. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by tattoo on 01/22/07 at 14:50:20 thanx i think i will order them from the south and come on down to home of the brave and pickem up, i am only a 5 minute drive from montana, can pick em up there, thanx........eh! |

Even though I located my big old tire irons, I'm thinking that I'll pay the piper the $70-$80 to mount both tires for me from now on. I've always done it myself in the past, but as you mention, they are "Tuff" and then some. Nowadays it would take me half a day to do the job, and a whole day to recover from doing it! :-/ |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by slavy on 01/23/07 at 06:58:49 The easiest way to install tires is if You have an option to worm them. Here in Az it is not so hard ;). I just put the tire on the black top of my truck and untill the old tire is removed, the new one is nice and soft. If You don't have our "solar heater", may be it will help if You put the tire against the home heater and wait for an hour, before installing. |

We can sure "worm" them in Texas in the summer! ;) |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by justin_o_guy on 01/23/07 at 08:15:41 Now that I've seen the man's tire "wormer" at the shop, I can have him worm it righ on the rim for under $20.00 per tire I bet. I will just hual the rim in, deflated, schreider valve pulled & pay someone to deal with it from there.I will keep the tools for the day I can't find the $$$ for the guy at the store. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by tfrawg75 on 01/23/07 at 10:19:25 my tire is a 140/80-15 will the 140/90 go on with out rubbing? |
|
Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by Savage_Rob on 01/23/07 at 12:08:53 That depends. Without saddlebag supports, it probably won't rub with the shock presets at center or higher. With the saddlebag supports installed, mine rubbed on the left side. Setting the stock shocks to their stiffest/highest position took care of almost all of the rubbing. Replacing the bolts that hold the saddlebag supports with mushroom head allen bolts took care of the rest. Now that I have 12.5" Progressive shocks, it's a moot point. There's all kinds of clearance. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by barry68v10 on 01/23/07 at 15:52:57 When I get to the tire replacing stage (1800 on my tires now) I'm going with 130/90/15 on the back. They have the same weight rating and suspect they will "track" a little better. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by LANCER on 01/23/07 at 16:17:11 I was able to get a set of Metzeler 880's for a VERY good price on ebay. They are not brand spanking new, 1 is 2 and the other 3 years old since manufacture, but with the quality of the product I have no problem with it. Besides, even if I only use them for a couple of years/7-10k it will be well worth the few dollars spent and the ride/handling quality I will experience. |

Title: Re: dunlop 404 Post by tfrawg75 on 01/23/07 at 20:44:57 well I don't have saddlebag supports and the shocks are set as stiff as they will go for 2 up riding so I guess I will be fine thank you |
