Title: TKat Fork Brace
Post by TVR on 01/06/07 at 09:53:38

Received the Tkat Fork Brace. It was a very easy install. He didn't act like he would be making more of them, but I think if he had sufficient interest, he would reconsider. $90 bucks including shipping.
TKats website (http://www.tkat.com/forkbrace.html)

These are images of my install:

Fork Brace 2 (http://home.swbell.net/tvr101//savage/TKATBrace2.jpg)

Fork Brace 3 (http://home.swbell.net/tvr101//savage/TKATBrace3.jpg)

Fork Brace 4 (http://home.swbell.net/tvr101//savage/TKATBrace4.jpg)

I won't be able to comment on performance until I get my new carb installed, but it feels really solid.

I've had my Tkat since August, love it, keeps a straighter line on the freeway, and when I hit those tar snakes, the wobble has been reduced to just an up and down motion, no more side to side sensation.

I sent the guy an email, so I'll let you know how he responds.  $90 sure beats the snot out of $155+shipping for a superbrace...  Also, he designs his to clear the fender, not sure if the superbrace does by looking at the pictures, although I don't remember anyone here mentioning that either way.

I am buying Reelthings Superbrace. Gonna cost a bit more than $90.00. It will have the fork protectors on it. He said when he pulled it off it had done some damage to the paint on the fender, so I guess Superbrace may need some extra care during install or pay the consequences.

Did you straddle the front end & twist the bars before you installed the brace? I have done that. It's pretty revealing. I will do it again before I install the brace & right after to see how much difference it makes. Well, unless I get all excited & forget.

I've been happy with Tkat's fork brace too, especially for fast, bumpy corners. Keeps the front tire on the road & feels more stable. You can get a nice shine on it with #1000 grit sandpaper. I'd put masking tape around the fork seals first though, to keep the metal dust out.

Yes Tkat fork brace works and even clear the HD fender I have on the front of mine. It would be easy to ril and tap the bracket for ome fork seak protectors. I was using some designed for an off road bike. Velcro and some wet suit type material that worked fine. Max

Hey guys, got an email back from tkat who made/makes a fork brace for $90 including shipping.  He said he's discontinued the line due to the underwhelming response for the Savage.  If he gets a surge now, he may reconsider.

Rode mine today for the first time since I've installed the brace. I sure liked how tight it felt.

I e-mailed the guy yesterday that does the fork braces and got a reply today that he probably won't make any more of these ever but if he does, he will keep me posted. Doesn't sound too promising.

On both 125&350LC's I had tubular steel fork braces, also had steering dampers on both.

Okay, not making a pitch for this brace, but I highly recommend a brace. Prior to installing the brace, 70 mph came with a lot of vibration.  Drove yesterday and today at 70-75 and noticeably less vibration. I highly recommend a brace if highway speeds rattle your fillings a bit. Cornering is firmer too, but the reduction in vibration is worth the price.

I have no doubt Tkat's fork brace is a quality piece of craftsmanship but it appears he may not make them any longer.  I believe he made one run at the request of a member here and then had very slow progress trying to actually sell them, even though they were less expensive than the SuperBrace (http://www.superbrace.com/).  I definitely recommend some make of fork brace.  I have been very happy with my SuperBrace (http://www.superbrace.com/).

Thanks for the link, I was just going to ask what our other options were since Tkat no longer made ours

If I remember correctly, SuperBrace (http://www.superbrace.com/) charged a flat S/H fee of $10 per order.  That said, if you consider purchasing the stainless fork protectors, you may want to order them at the same time so they only cost an additional $25 instead of $35.
