Title: Left side license plate bracket Post by geo on 01/15/07 at 20:15:02 Thanks guys for helping me find a left side axle mounted license plate bracket. This all chrome bracket is pretty, and eliminates the ugly rear fender mounted bracket and mount. I bought a cheap $4 light that fit the bracket perfectly. It is a chassis ground, so I faked the ground connection, knowing full well it will not light up. This is enough. The cops will never figure it out. |

Don't you think not being able to see it at night might give it away? |

Title: Re: Left side license plate bracket Post by geo on 01/15/07 at 20:41:59 No, because the cops headlights will light it up and he will never know. The license plates issued here are highly reflective by themselves, officer. |

Title: Re: Left side license plate bracket Post by Bri_Fri on 01/15/07 at 21:46:14 I've got a few questions about the side mount: 1) Does the license plate get in the way of the passengers leg? 2) Where did you get the mount? 3) Got any pictures? Thanks, Brian |

Title: Re: Left side license plate bracket Post by geo on 01/17/07 at 22:32:07 Go to "amazingproducts.com. You might have to look around a bit. Search on WM-11-120. This is the part number you are after. The bracket is axel mounted and does not interfere with passenger foot position. Don't ride 2 up on this machine, it's too small! |

Title: Re: Left side license plate bracket Post by Bri_Fri on 01/18/07 at 00:05:32 How would you go about mounting one of those on the axle? Do you just take off the end screw, put on the bracket and put the screw back on? ??? -Brian- |

Title: Re: Left side license plate bracket Post by vroom1776 on 01/18/07 at 08:13:23 you can make yr own pretty easy... may not look 100% the best, but very cheap. basically a piece of aluminum (polished or dimand plate), and a right angle bracket. make sure it's steel, aluminum fatigues too easy. ask me how I know. drill and attach. run wiring if wanted. |

Title: Re: Left side license plate bracket Post by Five_Points on 01/18/07 at 08:30:20 I originally bought one of those side mount license brackets. I ended up returning it and making my own like Vroom said. Much cheaper, looks just as good IMHO, and you can make it to attatch wherever you like. I attatched mine to the top shock mount, and it works great. If you do want to buy one of these, look at ebay, they have them a lot cheaper, like around $30 Here's a pic of the one I made: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v408/fivepointsskates/Motorcycle/DSCN1973.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v408/fivepointsskates/Motorcycle/DSCN1972.jpg |

Title: Re: Left side license plate bracket Post by geo on 01/18/07 at 16:49:14 This license plate bracket is mounted by simply removing the axle nut and removing the washer. Then install the bracket and replace the nut without the washer. Very simple. The part is 1/8" thick stainless steel. It's beautiful. If you want to make your own go ahead. This part I bought is beautifully polished stainless steel and is very high quality. To beat the price of this part you would need access to a metal shop with a sheet metal bender. The part appears to be chrome plated. So, you would need to pay for plating too. The finishing would be expensive for just one part. You might be able to make your own for $30 but again you need to buy the aluminum stock, bend it, and paint it. This would be a schlock part compared to this stainless one. |

Title: Re: Left side license plate bracket Post by Five_Points on 01/18/07 at 18:15:22 I'll get out and take a closeup pic of my home made one this weekend. Basically, it's an "L" bracket that bolts onto the shock mount and comes out horizontally (this is what the tail light attaches to. Then I bolted a piece of straight steel to that at a 90 degree angle that goes down with the angle of the shock, and the license attatches to this. I paid $8 in parts and 20 minutes in labor. As for one you buy that bolts up to the axle, here's a few on ebay at a decent price This one is from an ebay store called Demon cycles south, and I've bought from them (LED turn signals), they are great to deal with and have good prices: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-SIDE-MOUNT-LICENSE-PLATE-BRACKET-FITS-HARLEY-HONDA_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35568QQihZ014QQitemZ330075917694QQrdZ1 here's a buy it now for a bit more: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SIDEMOUNT-LICENSE-PLATE-HOLDER-STAINLESS-SIDE-MOUNT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35575QQihZ013QQitemZ230079197188QQrdZ1 |
