Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by vroom1776 on 01/26/07 at 10:20:32 the dimples are for hd style controls, I think, so no. 36" soemtiems it looks goofy on such a norrow bike, but it makes it a lot easier to steer,e sp w/ one hand. |

Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by Savage_Rob on 01/26/07 at 10:58:17 I bought the 36" set of these (http://store.wpsracing.com/wiandlowhafo2.html) for $29 and I'm pretty sure they are not dimpled. I will check this afternoon and let you know. They are knurled where the risers clamp on. I am very satisfied with them. |

Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by justin_o_guy on 01/26/07 at 12:16:55 John, you are such a big guy I think you would want the wide bars. I would consider the distance from your shoulder to the risers to decide on which angle on the bar ends will be most comfy. If its far enough to have the elbow about straight I would think the lesser bend in the bar end would be more comfy on the wrist. If the elbo will be bent pretty good, then the bigger angle would line the wrist up with the forearm better, or so it seems to me. I can see the point made about "looking a bit odd on such a narrow bike", but I would think tyhe comfort , safety issue is big enough to cancel any worries in that area.I have the little drag bars on the 05 & it requires real serious steering input sometimes. It does allow me to feel the front end flex & I am looking forward to getting a brace on it. The dimples you asked about, were you talking about the knurling under where the clamps go? If you get some w/o that & you feel like it needs something to make it solid in the mounts you could drill & pin the bars once you got them just where ya want them.I think thats common on apehangers because the leverage they offer is greater than the friction from the knurling can deal with, As to width, I was thinkin again. Seems I am most comfy with a bar that is just a bit wider than I am, so my hands aren't straight in front ot between the shoulders. Grab a broomstick & mark the distances off & see what works. Keep in mind the angles the bars have will make the wrist more comfy than the stick allows. I hope that helps, |

Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by justin_o_guy on 01/26/07 at 23:21:07 Nice lookin Rob.. Yep, garage is a bit too neat. & the wires are absol;utely symmetrical leaving the bars. Okay Rob is a neat freak! Unless I miss my guess, Rob uses his turn signals at every turn & cancels within 50 feet of exit. Watches Monk & points out the stuff Monk misses. |

Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by Greg_650 on 01/27/07 at 06:35:24 Savage bars are dimpled too, but you can get rid of that requirement with a dremel tool or a half round file when you take off the controls...if you want. |

Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by Greg_650 on 01/27/07 at 06:59:41 There is a nipple that goes in the dimple. |

A NIPPLE ????? what nipple??? is it easy to see if I go look??? and what does it do??? |

Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by Greg_650 on 01/27/07 at 07:14:59 The nipple goes in the dimple to keep the controls positioned on the bar. Loosen up the bolts on the left hand grip (easier one) to see. You'll have to get it really loose to turn the controls. They keep the assembly positioned. |

Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by Greg_650 on 01/27/07 at 07:43:39 It is real easy to file off your nipples if you want. |

Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by vroom1776 on 01/27/07 at 08:55:41 I broke my dimple off with a hemmer when one of he screws holding the control box on was seized. BUT, I sitll don't think those are the same dimples. the dimples I am thinking of are more like gullys for wires to enter the hd control boxes. the pic I want to post is broken up into 4 pics, so here's the link: flanders dimpled bars (http://www.sideroadcycles.com/AmericanMotorcycles/Handlebars/Options/Dimpled.html) |

Title: Re: to dimple or not to dimple Post by Savage_Rob on 01/27/07 at 10:00:47 Hmmm... I thought he was talking about dimpled bends in the bars - not the alignment holes for the switches' nipples. I just filed those nipples off with a rat-tail file. |

Here's a bit more info to add to your I'm Okay, You're Okay analysis... The tank doesn't look the same anymore since I removed the decals and sprayed it with truck bed liner. I have also done the front fender and both side panels, I still have to do the rear fender. I like low maintenance. |

it "needs" alignment dimples, but as pointed out, you just take those off with a file. it does not need the flanders style dimples, or as I called them, gullys. the bars do need to be knurled, though, so the rises can effectively grab them |

To be perfectly clear, you don't take off the "dimples" with a file. It is the "nipples" that you remove with a file :) |
