I just installed a 96 engine in an 86 frame. I also have the 96 igniter box but the connectors are different than the 86 version. I would like to use the new igniter unit but I need the specific pin locations for the box. I have the matching connector body and pins for the new unit, but that's it.

Can anyone help me identify the pin locations for a 96 igniter?

Can you tell me the pin numbers on the igniter module and match that to the wiring color codes? I don't see that there.

The harness that is on the bike is an 86, and the igniter module is a 96.

best i can do is try and take a pic tonight of my 1997 model... also, take a look at the mysterious... link. I'm not sure if that info is in there, though...

If I can't find a wiring diagram that explains it, maybe someone can go to their 96 - (?) bike and jot down the color codes and match them to the pin positions. That would let me figure it out.

The 96 should have a 8 pin connector,2 rows of 4 each. Looking at the ignitor itself the top row of pins,left to right: 1 orange/white(+12V in) 2 Green(crank sensor), 3 Orange(crank sensor) 4 Black/White(Ground)
Second Row left to right: 5 black/yellow(Ignition coil) 6 black(start relay) 7&8 are not connected.
The colors should be the same on your 86 harness. I ran a later ignitor on my 88 for a while without any problems.Left the ignition on and cooked the original ignitor and took a while to round up parts to repair it.

Sounds like the 97 diagram should work for an 86... what
year is the decomp controler from?

just checked the ignitor on my 97:

1: Black/Yellow tracer -> ignition coil;
2: Black, no tracer -> starter relay
3: no wire
4: no wire
5: Orange/White tracer -> ignition coil & kill/start switch = + 12V
6: Green, no tracer -> magneto pickup coil
7: Orange, no tracer -> magneto pickup coil
8: Black/White tracer -> ground

Excellent work guys!! That will do me just fine!!

I have been to the Suzuki dealership, the salvage yards, the public library, (and of course all over the web) and there is nothing. You guys saved my a$$!!

By the way, the decomp controller is the 86 (everything except the igniter and the engine itself is from the 86)
