Title: sportster seat
Post by SCOOTERDUDE on 04/25/07 at 08:01:29

Does anyone know the specifics of the sportster seat mod? Do any of the sportster models work better than others or some not at all? I did a search of this site but didn't see any specific info about that. Thanks for any help.

A lot of seats work, too many to list specific models.

Take a close look at the ones in the posts and find one that looks like it is the only advise I can give you.   ;D

I put the V-Star on mine and after looking at the reversable mod seat mount on the above link I think I'll be changing how I have mine mounted in the near future. I too am not so fond of the higher perch I've ended up with, but it's a must 'cause I wanted to keep my back seat. Just in case she decides she'll ride there sometimes.

Here's a link to pix of my 650 with several mods.

I have no idea what model V* the seat came off of. I picked it up used in a bike junkyard. I looked at several in the pile and took the prettiest one.

You'll find it has you sitting quite a bit higher than the stock seat unless you're willing to give up your back seat.

hey Jack, What size tour tank is that on the back?

The tank on the back is a four gallon one from tourtank.com. I had it and my stock Suzi-Q tank last summer on a 4,200 mile run to Miami, FL and back. It really makes a difference when you stop when you want to and not dictated by having to find a fuel stop. I had it powder coated, they come in a burnished aluminum and in a few different sizes that looks like a mini beer keg. The mounting bracket is included as well as several choices of fixtures and hardware for however you might want to mount it on your bike. I just drilled two holes through my sissy bar and used two of the four mounting holes on the tank's bracket. then put the seat backrest back on over the bolt heads. You can pick the back of the bike up with it if you have to.

My one minor complaint is that even with a vented cap it still will splash gas out around its rim if you fill it anywhere near full. I just checked their web page and they've added a vent/overflow tube that might solve some of that problem. With it and the five gallon Harley tank on the front I'm good to go just about anywhere with no worries about being stranded between gas stops.
