Title: Stupid Petc0ck Question
Post by Gulfstream on 07/06/07 at 14:23:51

This going to be a stupid question I'm sure. The petc0ck has three positions, Primary, On, and Reserve. Which one is used for normal operations (not reserve) and what is considered off? I guess my qustion is what's the difference between Primary and On?

The positions on the petc0ck are on which uses engine vacuum to allow gas to flow.  If the engine is off there is no vacuum and no gas can flow.  Reserve gives you about 20 miles of gas when the tank runs low so you're not stranded.  The prime position allows gas to flow to the carb without the engine running.  It is called prime as in to prime to allow gas to flow if the carb has no gas in it to start the engine.

PRI - gas runs to carb with engine off
ON - first 2 gallons of gas runs to carb if engine is running
RES - last half gallon of gas runs to carb if engine is running

when shutting bike off, valve should be left in ON or RES, never PRI (It'll flood)

Cool, thanks guys...I thought "PRI" was primary, your explainations cleared that up!
