Just bought and install Suzuki gel seat and back rest. Here's what I learned:

"Leather" Gel Pillow seat. First, it is not leather as stated in the part name and the description. The covering is entirely vinyl. Second, the "Pillow" seat appears to only differ from the "Classic" seat in having 4 buttons on centerline. Third, the Pillow gel seat is actually much narrower than the stock seat for the passenger, so I'd guess it would be LESS comfortable for some people. The gel seat had all the brackets, was an easy install and fit properly.

Backrest Set: First it does not include the rear rack as pictured in the part description. Therefore the cost for the backrest 'set' and rack is about $270. The set had all necessary parts and was a fairly easy install. The quality of the parts and the instructions were surprisingly good. The only part I didn't like was drawing the painted fender up tight against the chrome brackets.

Visit the Suzuki site, S40 and then accessories. The part name and then the description both say 'Leather.' We actually rather have vinyl because we know it will get wet often.

A little more info: the stock seat weighs about 4.5 lbs; the gel seat about 6.5.

The pillion on stock seat is about 8" wide seam-to-seam; the pillow gel seat pillion is about 6" wide.

Correction: the pillow seat has 5 buttons, all on centerline.

My wife likes the wider stock seat better, made an elastomeric cushion to place on top of it and now is happy. I'll use my Airhawk cushion, which I highly recommend.

Get the seat up on the marketplace.

I put a single piece on my '01 because passenger seat on the showroom bikes seemed softer than the '01 back seat.

It's not like buying 'leather' in the 60's and 70's. I bought a leather 'HD' jacket in '92 that smelled so bad I gave it away. The 'leather' came from an animal but I have no idea which kind. It sure wasn't a cow. Last year I attended a bike show where dozens of dealers were selling jackets, chaps, pants, etc. Most weren't bikers. You really had to examine the product carefully to locate any real leather - vinyl and pleather ruled. If they are selling a 'genuine leather motorcycle jacket' for $79 you got to wonder.

The nauga site is great; it's good to see someone in a major corp. that has a sense of humor.

Our new RV had an extra-cost option "Ultra-Leather." Of course it is not any form of leather. It still bothers me that companies can freely choose to use 'new' meanings for well-known words in order to deceive customers and substitute things of lesser value.

However, it is not surprising. Our lawmakers, the politicians do it everytime they open their mouths. "I did not have sex with that women!" is simply among the most memorable.
