Title: Engine noise Post by applegoat on 04/08/08 at 11:51:09 Hi Everyone My savage just turned 18k miles. Shortly after that, I noticed a high pitch squeak coming from the top end. It is very distinct when listening through the exhaust. I read here, some time back, that this engine is known for poor or slow lubriction to the top end. This is my main source of transpertation, so I would appreciate any tips before I explore. It would be nice to have a box of replacement parts handy. Thanks Much Woolly |

Title: Re: Engine noise Post by applegoat on 04/08/08 at 20:29:05 Yes I ride it 7 miles each way to work and back. No, I have never replaced the cam chain. However, there is a lot of good information on this web site, in that regards. Thanks |

Title: Re: Engine noise Post by Max_Morley on 04/08/08 at 20:32:18 I'd vote for a tiny exhaust leak at the flange. Try tightening it to specs when cold and see if it changes or goes away. Max |

Title: Re: Engine noise Post by verslagen1 on 04/08/08 at 20:48:44 When was the last time you adjusted the valves? I heard that an indication of cam bearing wear was unequal adjustment of the valves between left and right. Otherwise, check for loose screws. The squeaks can manifest as very strange sounds. I have intermitant squeaky headlight and speedo. A new squeak appears every now and then. Grab headlight squeak goes away. Another time its the speedo. And they sound different most of the time. And if you've never looked at it... http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1191167029 |

Title: Re: Engine noise Post by justin_o_guy2 on 04/08/08 at 23:23:48 Took me a while to locate the squeak I heard when a car pulls out in front of me. One day it happened 3 times in less than 2 hours & I was able to locate the squeak real easy. My anus was slightly friction burned from puckering 3 times in such a short period. |
