Title: Hanging while driving?
Post by Chopped on 04/24/08 at 08:25:09

when the bike is cold, it feels like its hanging up some where, maybe in the brakes. It jerks a bit when trying to move forward. itsnot a heavy jerk, but is noticable to me and the person behind me! Any ideas on what the problme might be.

Oh, the break line has a bit of slack in it cause I like it that way. Is an easy adjustment on the brake lever/cable/rear tire side what I need?

Have you done the white spacer mod yet?

This lurching is common in bikes without the spacer mod.

Haning? I thought this was gonna be about the putting on or taking off of underwear while driving. I was really hoping to pick up some pointers, since I have to slow WAY down to do it.

It is not uncommon for the rear brake to drag some immediately after being readjusted.  Newbies tend to tighten the rear brake up too much when they adjust it and this can give you the "sluggish" feeling.

The rear brake on the savage also tends to accumulate some brake dust as wear occurs and it requires a little extra adjustment slack to keep the dust from giving you that momentary "dragging sensation" if the rear brake gets a bit wet from going through a puddle, etc.

Of course, you guys are fortunate, you can wipe off the brake mud formed by the addition of that splash water with your underwear that you just took off ....

The rest of us just aren't that skilled, we have to stop, put it on the sidestand, get off and then loosen our rear brake adjust nut by a turn or two.

:-?

I may take the rear tire off this weekend and check out the breaks. thanks for the tip. it would be easier to wipe that crap off if Iactually wore underwear!
