Title: Savage wheelie Post by Hard Corps on 07/28/08 at 17:19:42 So, on my way home from work today I was on a nice stretch of freshly paved blacktop county road with a clear view for about 2 miles straight ahead. I was testing out 40-70mph per Bill's post. Anyhow, after charting the performance on the high end of the spectrum I decided to check out the low-end. I've known from the start that this little bike had a lot of low-end (it dumped me off the first night I had it ::). And I love when dumbass teeagers and frat boys with hats on backwards pull up in their little S10 pickups and Toyota Celicas and rev their engines at me. It's fun to embarrass them while looking all relaxed and nonchalant. Especially if they have their girlfriend with them. 8-) So I took the Savage from a dead stop and flat rolled on the throttle. The front wheel came up off the ground about 18 inches, I let off a bit, leaned forward to shift my weight & put the wheel down, clutched and shifted to 2nd and rolled hard on the throttle again. I was about to shift up again but I was already at 38mph. I didn't see the need to take it any farther. I was impressed. So after I checked to be sure I didn't need a clean set of drawers, I checked in the mirror to be sure it was me riding the bike (I managed to keep control of a small wheelie and not lay it down!!!) Then I had to light up a cigarette. My only question is, was it as good for the Savage as it was for me? ;) I don't think I'll try this again, as I don't want to wreck the bike. But she sure did pleasantly surprise me. |

Title: Re: Savage wheelie Post by Hard Corps on 07/28/08 at 18:25:37 It's a trick I learned in Iraq ;) I did actually wait until I got home, but it was a half mile more of narrative that I edited for the sake of expediency. All of which you've just negated. :D |

Title: Re: Savage wheelie Post by buttgoat1 on 07/28/08 at 18:38:27 I pulled a small wheelie in the parking lot at work, didn't really mean too, just a little harder than normal launch. May try it again, but I'm with you, no real need to prove anything. |

So, buttgoat, I know it's been asked before, but I don't know that I've ever read an answer: What's with the name? I can hardly read your posts without cracking up. It's like something I'd call one of my young Marines in need of a good hygiene instruction. |

Title: Re: Savage wheelie Post by ALfromN.H. on 07/28/08 at 19:07:58 I'm a former Marine. I'd like to hear a navy joke. ;D |

Title: Re: Savage wheelie Post by Sandy Koocanusa on 07/28/08 at 19:20:02 I think he thought better of the joke and was hoping he edited that before anyone saw it. Come on Marine! Sound off like you got a pair! Let's hear the joke. I've been waiting for a chance to use that line in conversation ever since I saw Full Metal Jacket. Isn't that pathetic? :-[ ;D |

Title: Re: Savage wheelie Post by Hard Corps on 07/28/08 at 19:55:22 Okay, I admit, I edited my original post. I realized most of the really funny jokes I have about the other services aren't appropriate to post here. Or anywhere other than maybe inside a portash1tter in Iraq. Not quite as funny, just a chuckler, but here's a clean one that fits the topic: Marines of course take pride in their level of physical fitness, so we like to poke fun at the other services' fitness tests. Ours consists of a three-mile run with a goal of 18 minutes, pull-ups with a goal of 20, and crunches with a goal of 100 in 2 minutes. The army's is similar but they only run 2 miles, and they do push-ups instead of pull-ups. The airforce rides a stationary bike (no joke!). Nobody has ever seen the Navy PT. But we heard their test consists of sitting in a lawnchair bolted in a canoe in the middle of a hurricane with a coffee and a cigarette. Best we can figure from their reputation the three goals would have to be maintaining an upright lawn chair (and thusly the canoe), spilling as little coffee as possible and keeping the cigarette lit. In all seriousness, though, the Navy Corpsman I've worked with have been some of the most dedicated and combat-ready personnel in the military, and I've done joint ops with all of the other services. |

Was that a typo? I always learned it as "Broad-a$$ed Marine" for the females. I guess their DIs told them it meant "Beautiful American Marine". Jokes on them. I've also heard it as "Born-Again Marine" as in "Private Pyle, you are born-again hard," from Full Metal Jacket. |

Title: Re: Savage wheelie Post by Sandy Koocanusa on 07/28/08 at 20:06:56 I had started to say that if they were anything like the female cops I worked with, the board was more like a sheet of plywood. Then I thought better of it. It was an extra half-mile of narrative which I edited out, and which you have just negated. ;) |
