Title: Handlebar Controls
Post by louie650 on 07/29/08 at 17:50:35

First, let me admit that I am a novice at this.  I have read many of the posts, but I am still not sure how to approach my problem.  I just bought an '87 Savage.  Although it has new paint, the aluminum parts look like they were stored in a chicken coup.  I have 8" risers with 24" drag bar (6" pull back). I like the bar, but it feels too high for me.

I want to use the same bar but lower the riser to 4 1/2".  Also, I want to put on new hand controls.  Everything I have seen talks about using the existing controls, which I don't want to do.  They work but really don't seem salvageable.  Is there some reason I can't use any control as long as it fits a 1" bar?  Isn't the same true with the risers (aside from having to drill out the bushings for a 1/2" bolt)?  Does anybody have any idea where I can get the parts other than off of ebay?

Any 1" controls would work. You would have to get a wiring diagram for the controls, and match wires to the original harness. There isn't a whole lot out there for these bikes, you have to make parts work from other bikes.I wet sanded, and buffed all my controls. When they were clean, and polished they looked about like chrome. They were oxidized white before I started.
