Post by johnnie on 07/31/08 at 05:57:07

Hello everybody,

I think I'ld do good replacing my brakes, but I'ld like to do it myself and learn something more about my bike! Can you guys walk me through it? I'm a complete newb in mechanics though!

Appreciate it!

Brake pads are one of the easiest things to do.  Loosen the pin (5mm hex).  Remove bolts/lockwashers/washers.  Remove caliper now hanging by a hose.  Remove above loosened pin.  Remove old pads.  Shove piston back into it's hole (I use a c-clamp).  Install new pads, replace pin, replace caliper, replace bolts, tighten to torque specs listed in the manual.  First couple of pumps on the brake lever will be light until the pads contact the rotor.  Oh Yeah, the manual mentions something about clean and lube....

Don't let the caliper hang by the hose. Zip tie it to something so the weight is taken off of the hose.

There's a good guide in this section. Look in the table of contents.
