Title: will a 05 engine fit on a 95 bike?
Post by twistedcreekfarm on 07/31/08 at 19:18:55

I am the guy that had the engine problem- looking to replace the engine and see one for sake but not sure if it can be switched onto a 95 frame.  If you have any info on what will fit or what needs to be done to make it fit please share with me or direct me to where I can find the info.

also I will post an update on what the bike shop says in the next few days per the outcome of my bike.  The owner and I will be meeting Friday or saturday and he seems interested in learning more about what happened. I feel they want to address the situation. The have a good reputation of being a good dealership- hopefully we can work out the issue.

Please share with me any ideas per the new engine and what will work or where to find an engine.

Thanks! 8-)

Just so I know we are on the same page, you're the one that the dealer mech said it was nothing to worry about then your engine blew right?

yep- same guy and bike.  The bike has not yet been lets say opened up but will be this weekend it looks like- was waiting to discuss with the dealer first. I fI expect them to be involved I thought they had the right to check the bike out.  No matter what happens we are going to fix the bike if possible. Just feel like that what we want to do.

Money wise it might not make sense but we want to do it.  The engine I am asking about is an 05 engine and my bike is a 95.  I am wondering if all the bolts and stuff work the same or what might need to be changed.

I think so, one thing to check is the altenator/regulator wiring.

Any after the early nineties Savage hiatus are five speeds and the early years are four speeds.  I may be off slightly but I believe they came back in 1995.  I can guarantee that my 1990 is a four speed.

thing is, suzuki apparently kept sending the savage to other countries while the US wasnt getting any. I dont think the US got the savage in 1990. 87 and 88 i think, then when we got them back in '95 they had 5 speeds.

The 5 speed gearbox was introduced in 1991. :D

The engine will fit the "95 frame

this is what the dealerships says per the first inquiry:  a 05 engine will work but be very cautious - the crank shaft has changed between those years.  I am planing on taking the entire engine/motor/transmission/crankshaft etc from the 05. The frame on a 95 is the same as the 05 - which means wwe are thinking it will work. More details and info will be discussed when I meet with the dealership about it in the morning.  They are going to open up the bike and see what actually went wrong and what damage is really done to the bike.

Will keep you informed but if you know anything related to the engine switch please add it to this forum.

thanks... we might just get that thumper back on the road!
