Title: Oil Making machine
Post by daweise1 on 08/01/08 at 05:34:37

Ok, I changed the oil in my bike and like others, found the machine that was straight across the middle warm, but not hot has a full "sight" glass after my last ride....

Bike does not seem to be affected, and it is over the high mark, but there is a little bubble of air at level......... (I know, I know, oil expands, should have gone only to the low) It was my first oil change on this bike.

Question is "Can I use a plastic tube (clean) and "pipe" out some of the oil from the top fill hole?" I should be able to use a length of clean tubing, put my thumb on it to keep the pressure and get enough out to bring the sight glass right......

I hate to drain the whole bike for .1 or .2 oz

Yes you can, but it could be a slow process.  You might want to consider loosening the drain plug a little bit until it starts to leak, then retighten..OH, rubber gloves make it less a mess trying to get the oil out from the crevases in the skin. ;)

I'm going to stretch my neck out here and say leave it alone.  That dumb sight glass is about as unscientific a means of measurement as you will ever find.  If it's reading a little high, double check your tire pressures.  If one or the other tire needs a pound of air, the oil level in the glass is going to change.  I'm just happy when the oil is somewhere in the glass.  If I can't see oil, then I'll start worrying.

Look at it this way:  You can spend all that time goofing around trying to get an ounce of oil out of the bike, or you could spend it putting a couple of hundred miles on the bike and using the oil up.  One is an exercise in tedium, the other is, well, not an exercise in tedium. :)

;D

My thoughts exactly, but I have had the bike 6 weeks... I prefer someone who has it a lot longer to keep me straight.  If it's not broke, dont'...... Sorry, then I could not change the muffler....

Oh well, since the "extra" oil is not bogging it down, I'm going back to riding it like I stole it..... 8-)
