Title: Air Box removal and battery relocation - need idea
Post by strangeling on 08/27/08 at 20:51:32

Hey Savages,

I'm thinking of removing my airbox but I'm not sure what wiring I will encounter behind the airbox and need some ideas of how to hide it. If its a lot I might go the fake oil tank route. Also has anyone relocated their battery further back away from the stock location ?.
Any pics of the airbox removed would be a great help.

Thanx,

Glenn

I think Savage Greg did that to his bike.

Once the airbox is removed, just tie-wrap the wires that run on top of it to the frame and you're set.  There are no wires behind to worry about.

Relocating the battery box aft is a good idea.  It will allow you to install a cone filter AND remove the float bowl on the carb, without having to disassemble the bike.

You will also have to move the CDI under the seat. I have a few pics, if interested PM me with your email. I have no time for photobucket or similar right now.

Will the battery fit down on that muffler bracket ledge?...or might it get too hot down there,...that's similar to the location on a stock 800 intruder.

Ok so I went ahead and ripped out the airbox and side covers today and it looks way better on my bobber. I ended up leaving the battery where it was for now. I'll post some pics later tonight.

Now waiting on my exhaust wrap and fork boots to arrive ! ;D

Very nice bike, love the forward controls, where did you score them?

Gee I don't know if I should tell a Kiwi since I'm an Aussie but:

The forward controls are by Seeger Cycle http://www.seegercycle.com/ls650savage.aspx

Very nice controls but at $650 they should be huh  ;D

I actually scored them from a previous member on this site who was selling them of his bike so I got a killer deal on em.

Dasch no problem man I was bored so I just attacked the airbox today anyway.

Word of advice: don't get even more bored like I did and attack the battery box brackets too :-)

I did look at doing something with relocating the battery but decided against it for now at least.  ;D
