Title: refilling oil through valves Post by Robertomoe on 08/29/08 at 12:04:55 Can I put oil into the engine via the valve covers? I am currently separated from my pair of pliers and I think the oil is borderline critical. |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by Robertomoe on 08/29/08 at 12:58:52 alright, turns out I dont need a pliers for the fill cap. I AM having trouble breaking the drain bolt. How do you get enough leverage underneath the bike without having it on a stand? |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by Sandy Koocanusa on 08/29/08 at 12:59:39 Now that you have an answer to your question, I have to know. If you can get the valve cover off, can't you get the filler cap loose? Just use the wrench you were going to open the valve cover with as one side of a plier and your thumb as the other? You work hard enough that you must have a decent grip. I know you do. I saw the video. :) Edit: Oops. Posted too late. A 24 oz. pounder works well as a persuasion device for that drain plug. |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by Robertomoe on 08/29/08 at 13:04:57 I thought the fill cap would be tough because I heard about it chipping but it was easy. I just cant get nearly enough leverage with the 17mm wrench at the bottom of the engine. |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by Robertomoe on 08/29/08 at 13:13:39 yea, put the wrench so the end comes out in front, then try to push down. I was tempted to try stomping it...but that would require me to hold onto the bike, keep the wrench on the bolt, and stomp down on the wrench all at once. Its like Twister |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by bill67 on 08/29/08 at 13:25:49 Can you put a little pressure on it and tap it with a wrench, finger pressure |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/29/08 at 13:25:59 Astated, point wrench toward front tire, then Spank down on it, a wrench, extension, anything. Its hard to get enough "PUSH" from a prone position. I wrapped a bootlace arouind the drainplug & ran it iout in a matter of seconds, instead of all that twisting with fingertips & avoided getting oil on me, too. |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by verslagen1 on 08/29/08 at 16:50:53 Why didn't you ask this first? box end on drain plug, open end towards front, as high as you can get it. Do you ever play with those wire puzzles? This is similar. get another wrench, big as you got. take the box end and slip it over the open end of the wrench, one way it'll just hang there, the other will add to the leverage of the 1st. And BTW, the threads are a tight fit, and it won't leak, just torque it down enough so it don't fall out, OK? Got it? |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by Foxman on 08/29/08 at 18:59:22 Mine was also hard to remove. I used my 17mm wrench and used a hammer, and lightly-mediumly tapped the wrench. I worked like a impact wrench. I dunno if this will help you or not, but its worth a try. Good Luck |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by T Mack 1 on 08/29/08 at 20:08:36 Once you get it off.... do like I did, while the oil is draining, run down to the auto parts store (have someone take you??) and buy a metric replacement oil drain plug. The AutoZone had one that fit perfct and it has a rubber washer verse the compression ring, so it seals nicer and it is easier to get back off. I think it was on 3 or 4 dollars. T Mack |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/30/08 at 05:02:04 I got tired of rasslin with the fill plug & found a piece of wood, about 7/8ths X 1/2, & cut a groove in it that the fill plug fits in. I keep it with my little 3 oz oil container. When its tiome for a dose, I pop the cap & squirt 3 Oz in., refill the oil container & its ready for next time. My cap isnt real hard to get off, its just a bit more than my fingers will do. Now, when I repaint the cap, I wont scrape it up with pliers. It was a hassle with the pliers, because the pipe was right in the way. The stick works great. |

Title: Re: refilling oil through valves Post by Roadie on 08/30/08 at 18:04:29 You can lock two wrenches together to get a bit more leverage. You can tap the wrench lightly with a hammer. I had the same problems when I first got the bike. Some duche bag tightened the piss otta the plug. Why? Who knows. 1/4 turn past tight does it. It's not like it's keeping the wheels on our something. |
