hello, i just bought a savage needed a lil work its a 97, i just got a stator for the engine and im not sure if i half to torque the case cover back on, if so what would it be set to?? and do i apply gasket sealer on the new gasket? everything looks to be nice and flat.. thanks for your help :) :

There's two schools of thought on whether to use sealer or not. I personally use it but do not use too much because it can clog oil passages. Most times however you can go without it because the gasket itself does have a bit of sealer on it already impregnated if I remember correctly.

As to torque, apparently my Clymer's manual does not list a torque value for that cover. I just usually snug it up hand tight then go around it in a star pattern giving each bolt a sharp quick twist. I kind of do it by feel so I can't give any real data on it.

My battery power drill has a tork adjustment on it , they all get the same tork that way.  Those 6mm screws get about 8 to 10 lbs.

Welcome to the "SAVAGE" world.  I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine.   I've got a 2004 Harley Sportster too but the Savage(96 yellow) is my main ride (its more fun).
