Title: Blown Main Fuse Post by Digger on 05/20/10 at 21:26:24 Just relating a recent experience: I recently had the fuel tank off of my scoot (see signature). When I slapped 'er back together, I blew a main fuse when I first turned on the ignition switch. Put a new one in (sometimes they just blow). This time, I was able to start the bike, but the fuse blew again when I revved the engine a bit. This time, I took the gas tank back off, checked all the wires (nothing jumped out at me), and slapped 'er back together. End of problem. Queertrons? You make the call. Y'all ride safe out there! |

Title: Re: Blown Main Fuse Post by T Mack 1 - FSO on 05/21/10 at 11:29:28 Check the wires at the headlight bucket. It's a know wear point and can cause blown fuses. Removing the tank giggles the harness that goes to the bucket. Maybe the first time caused the short, and playing with the tank a second time may have moved the wire far enough away. I agree with Verslagen, it may come back to haunt you.... |

I just re-looked at the parts microfische and it doesn't show a grommet there. even though the bucket is plastic the chrome coating is conductive. And you should look at were the wires pass the triple trees. Like Phelonius said, look for chaffing. Wear marks in the frame paint is a good sign of rubbing. T Mack |

Title: Re: Blown Main Fuse Post by Digger on 05/23/10 at 18:53:52 OK...I caved to the doom merchants. Off came the seats, the tank, and the headlight lens assy. I made a circuit checker that plugs into the main fuse receptacle. It powers a 12v light bulb with the juice that would be flowing the fuse. Had to disconnect the headlight bulb and taillight bulbs to make the tool more useful (otherwise, the tester's bulb was full bright whenever the ignition switch was turned on). No smoking gun yet. I'm taking this opportunity to tape wire bundles as needed.....and the need is great. The factory wiring job on this thing is somewhat less than stellar, to say the least. |

Title: Re: Blown Main Fuse Post by Digger on 05/25/10 at 19:22:31 OK... Went through everything I could see under the tank and the seats. Also opened up the headlight nacelle. Never did find any damaged wire, but I did a lot of taping and reorganizing of wires. I dare another fuse to blow! |
