Title: Looking at new bikes Post by kimchris1 on 05/26/10 at 07:45:40 Well yesterday I finally stopped at the new Triumph Dealership. I had wanted to stop in and look at their bikes for some time.. Wow the Triumph America 900 is a nice bike. The salesman held it up as with my right hand casted I did not feel comfortable trying to do it by myself. The saddle felt good under my butt...How I wanted to start it and hear the engine. Yet being inside that was not possible. I gathered some info and a catalog. Today I am going to the Suzuki dealership and maybe the Honda as well. No I am not buying.. I just need to get out and this helps me from going completly crazy.. I will report later on what and if any decisions I have made on what bike I may be leaning towards later... Have a great day everyone.. Hugs to all... Kim :-* :-* |

After a lot of questions from my friend and a lot of annoyance in the face of this man we kindly asked to talk with the manager about a possible purchase, 10 minutes later the "manager" came over quite annoyed as well and greeted us by sarcastically asking how many bikes we wanted to buy and such and such. At this point my friend had enough and thanked the man and we left a bit confused at what had just happened. Only later we found out that in "elite" dealerships of 3rd world countries one has to dress up and talk the talk in order to go and make a purchase. Typical mexican social dysfunctionality at it's best :D The thing is that my friend is LOADED but does not appear to be so and he is a bit on the polite/shy side as well, the rest of us were just wearing jeans and tshirts and apparently all of this that's why things didn't "click" at the stealership, lol. HERE'S the kicker. 2 days later he called all of us up and told us to come over to his house and bring our bikes. Later that day we all went to ride around the triumph dealership, make a racket and flip the employees the bird while we rode on my savage, a goldwing, 2 bmws, an old norton, an old cbx1000, a vulcan, 2 harleys, a ninja 636 and my friend's spanking brand new ducati monster 900 which he actually parked in the sidewalk in front of the dealership's door, took off his helm and went inside to greet the manager inform him that a couple of complaint letters, including a copy of the ducati's bill of sale, had been sent to the head office in the U.K. and to mexico's sales rep regarding this little customer-service fail incident. Regardless of the letters this happening was HUGE among mexico's biker community and forums and made this particular dealership the city's laughing stalk for a good while, the end. :D * P.S. I still like triumphs but if I bought one I would buy it used |

Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by earlytimz on 05/26/10 at 11:06:52 Wow, yes that Bonnie sure is a fine looking mosheen! I dunno if I could even visit the Honda & Suzuki dealers after seeing that! I'm wondering what a set of apes and a solo seat would look like on it?? (Joking!!! I like it!!!) |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by earlytimz on 05/26/10 at 11:35:18 Found this America on ebay. The guy says this is a dealer option bobber package. Not too shabby!! Needs the front fender though & maybe some turn down exhaust tips... http://i46.tinypic.com/2qbvg51.jpg http://i48.tinypic.com/b509dv.jpg |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by John_D FSO on 05/26/10 at 12:42:05 Yeah, I'd need a front fender on it, I've been getting caught in the rain with disturbing frequency lately. ::) I'd maybe put just a little bit longer mufflers on too, to cover the brackets. A very sweet looking bike though, I think I'm in love (don't tell my C50! ;)). Stimpy, I never get tired of that video! ;D |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by bill67 on 05/26/10 at 13:18:55 The American has the lower seat and the engine with the most low end torque,Bonny high seat and engine needs to rev higher.Better sounding exhaust too. |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by bill67 on 05/26/10 at 13:22:10 When I bought my s40 the dealer I have known for over 35 years said the C50 is the best bike you can get for the money,He also sells Honda and Kaws |

Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by earlytimz on 05/26/10 at 14:30:34 No doubt! Very expensive too!! |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by LostArtist on 05/26/10 at 15:02:59 for some reason triumphs are the only bikes I really like in blue . . . |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by kimchris1 on 05/26/10 at 16:05:21 Well so nice to see how well you all approved of my choice yesterday. I think when my hand isn't casted and thumb is healed I will go back and test ride this bike if they will let me. Afterall I don't buy it if I can't test ride it first. So today was trip to the Suzuki shop...Wowww; The C-50's are very very sweetttt... My tushie felt like it had possibly found it's place..haha.. Then came the Vulcan 900.. Alot of bike and again felt good under the tush.. I am beginning to think any saddle feels good under my tush . I kind of felt like Golielocks with the 3 bears beds.. haha.. ;) It was hard to leave yet I am sure they were tired of me drooling all over the place.. hahha... Then I headed over to the Honda shop. Their they had several Shadow's 750's as well as Yamaha V-star Classic 650's. Hubby owns a 750 and it is a very nice bike. I love the seats and the way it fits my tush and body frame as well. The V-star is a very nice looking bike and comes already equipped with windshield, floor boards, sissybar and saddlebags. To get a bike already equipped and not have to put out the extra expense of all that makes one think about maybe that is a way to go. I didn't set on one as their so close together on the showroom floor I just couldn't take a chance I might fall or scrape one against another one. So I just kept walking back and forth and drooling.. I would have thought I had lost all my drooling power back at the Suzuki shop..hhaahaha... So I came home feeling good and satisfied that I had gotten out and sat on a couple bikes as well as possibly made some decisions on what will be purchased someday in replacement of the S-40. I live for the day when I can gear up and ride till my butt falls asleep in the saddle and when rested, ride some more.. I will ride again. That is for sure. As for when, well that is yet to be determined for now. I do know I will go back to the Triumph as have not ruled that bike out either... |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by bill67 on 05/26/10 at 16:25:50 Moto Guzzi has a 750 that only weights 400# that about 150#to 200# less than what you been looking at, 50# more than the s40,Which has a normal riding position which is a lot better for long trips and they have longer travel rear suspension than most cruiser bikes. V7 Classic |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by RidgeRunner13 on 05/26/10 at 16:37:44 Well, if you're considering C50s & Vulcan 900s, you should look at the V-Star 950. It is air cooled belt drive like the Savage. The 950T comes with leather covered hardbags, w/s & ssisy bar. The 3 bikes are close to the same price if you shop around. My 950 engine is so much quieter than my friends C50 it makes him worry about his engine. I recently did the valve adjustment on his & it was a major PITA! Then I checked his cooling system & changed the lube in the final drive. The C50 is the only one of the 3 with a drum rear brake. It also has much fewer choices in oil filters. Just a few of the things we've learned so far riding these 2 bikes together. Look past what it looks like & toward what it will take to keep it up after you get it. Before buying anything check out forums for each one & you can soon learn each bikes pros & cons. JMHO 8-) Almost forgot, the mags are much easier to clean & use tubeless tires. :) http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n94/Pappygt13/BigTreeRide3-3-2010004.jpg 2009 Yamaha V-Star 950T & 2009 Suzuki C50 |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by bill67 on 05/26/10 at 16:44:24 How much does that Yamaha weight.what I've notice from the pass is that Yamaha have a little softer suspension,But Suzuki handles a little better,By brother always had Yamahas |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by RidgeRunner13 on 05/26/10 at 17:22:19 The 950T is about 650 lbs, the C50 & the Vulcan are about the same similarly equipped. I thought getting used to the weight would be a problem, but the 950 seems to have a lower center of gravity than my Savage. That being said, any of these 3 are very different from the Savage. I've had Hondas, Kawasakis, Suzukis, Yamahas, Triumphs, Nortons, BSAs & H-Ds, & probably some others I've forgotten. I've never been Brand loyal, preferring to ride whatever fits my needs. I'm more loyal to the concept of simplicity than any brand. |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by earlytimz on 05/26/10 at 17:45:12 Ridgerunner, That is some good advice! Nice looking bike too! I've always leaned towards the Yamahas myself, whether it was a bike or quad. For what it's worth... The last bike I had was a vstar 650. They are very comfortable & smooth bikes. I have to say it was the easiest bike to ride I've ever been on. Almost like you couldn't knock it over with a truck.. Very stable. I used to jokingly compare it to a Cadillac. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it needed another gear! I'm sure the 950 doesn't have that problem... The Yamahas have always been easier to maintain. Plus they're air cooled which goes a long way in my book. A good friend rides a vulcan... Runs and rides good, sounds good too but no thanks. You need 3 hands to change the oil. |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by kimchris1 on 05/26/10 at 19:32:47 Ridgerunner13, Thanks for sharing your information and pictures. I will definetly look into what it takes for upkeep on another bike. I also have thought of checking out the forums as well. Again thank you for your help and advice. Earlytimz the pic you supplied of the bobbed Triumph was cool yet, I would want to add a fender as well. Here in Wa I find that the weathermen can be wrong.. :o. O and what no apes? You surprised me..hahha...Hugs to all...Kim ;) |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by jef.savage on 05/26/10 at 19:38:40 This is the Triumph that gets my oil pumping http://www.triumph.co.uk/images/streettriple_2009_main_2.jpg If you're into Triumphs you should check the schedule of their demo trucks. I think they have two touring the country this summer. They're gonna be around here in July and I want to try a Rocket III Roadster. I rode one of these Street Triples at Laconia last year. The torque curve is so smooth that I started from a dead stop in third gear without knowing it until I saw the gear indicator. |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by Skid Mark on 05/26/10 at 20:04:37 I like the American. Very good looking and well reviewed. I like the Vulcan. Also good looking and well reviewed. Honda and Yammies just didn't click with me. When it came time to open the wallet, my C50 won. And not because of the thousands saved. I like the style, its very comfy, and has good power. 3500km and I'm a happy camper. ;D |

The bottom fell out just as I was leaving work this afternoon. It was upper 80's and sunny all day up til then. Around here, we often get pop-up showers from the heating & humidity. It lasted about 5 minutes & didn't even rain at my house. I didn't like it... but I roughed it! I had on a white shirt, my rear tire put some killer stripes up my back. I guess that's what I get for bobbing that fender so much!! LoL Oh well... Pimpin ain't easy... |

Laughing and hoping your laughing with me. It is nice that your able to ride whether it is rain or shine. One good thing is it was warm enuf that your shirt dried quickly.. Again I live for the day when I can again straddle my bike and no matter rain or shine, take to the road and go till I need to refuel. Stay safe my brothers and sisters.. :-* kim |

Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by kimchris1 on 05/27/10 at 14:31:46 Nat, the Triumph America is on special for $7999. This bike is very very nice.. They come in blue or black.. No pink...hmmmm Skatnbac, if they don't let me test drive the bike I want to. I will take my business elsewhere. When I bought my S-40 they had no problems letting me test drive it. I had to have my license and proof of insurance. I also showed him my copy of my safety class card. He said being I was a rider of then 3 years that he had no problems with letting me take it out. I would never buy a bike I had not tested out. |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by BurnPgh on 05/27/10 at 14:38:31 No test drives at the only nearby dealership. What they do is...you make a down payment or pay in full. If its a down payment you sign a contract agreeing to have consistent insurance as long as you still owe money. After the down payment you make no payments for at least a month depending on what plan you decide to go with. You have a month to return the bike for full refund of your down payment or full payment. All you have to do is buy a months worth of insurance. |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by Jerry Eichenberger on 05/28/10 at 05:38:32 Burn - That sounds like a pretty good deal at your dealership. My choice of next bike will be driven in good part by the dealer network. I have no desire to do any maint. myself, and like my cars that get serviced at the dealers, I take the bike to a very close by Suzuki dealer for maint. work. That's why my next choices are fairly limited - close by are Suzuki, Honda, and Triumph (not counting HD, which I wouldn't want anyhow). Also, if I'm ever on the road a good distance from home, I want a dealer as close as possible to fix anything that might break. So Honda kinda fits that bill best, don't ya think? |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by kimchris1 on 05/28/10 at 05:46:18 Triumph offers a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. Plus free oil changes for as long as you own the bike, yet limited to 4 per year. I will always carry road side assistance as that helps should their be a problem while I am out and about. It will be fun to go back and sit on these bikes once my hand is healed. Then I can set them up on the 2 wheels by myself and get a good feel as well.. :) |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by Jerry Eichenberger on 05/28/10 at 05:54:37 Kim - I almost bought a Triumph 2 years ago when I bought my S40 instead. I hadn't riddn in 40 years, so it was kind of an experiment to see if I really wanted to get back into it seriously. I didn't want to spend much $$ on that experiment. So I bought a 2 year old used S40. Now i do like to ride again, but my riding is fairly limited. With Ohio weather, the season is basically April thru most of October. My job dictates that I wear a suit some days each week, so I don't get to ride to work often. Plus, some client will usually call unexpectedly offering an adult beverage time after work. My unalterable rule is that I won't ride after even one drink. I know it's probably sacrilage to say so here, but the big maxi scooters kinda lit my fire too. The Burman and Honda Silverwing are really nice, but both are over $10K, equipped. Lots of money for what is, to me, basically a recreational machine. |

Nice to hear it delivers a sweet ride for you. I did set on a Vulcan 1300 and was a lil intimidated by that.. If I could, I would take the hubby's Shadow 750 out today... Darn it is raining and there is still the thumb thingy... :( |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by vtail on 05/28/10 at 18:36:24 Well, i ride with with a lot of Harley's. They now have a lot of respect for my S40 popper and I have been on some long rides with them but I needed a bike with a little more room and better "get lucky" accommodations (read "back seat" for you morons). So I could not turn down the deal on a new '09 C50T and with 1.99% financing I make money!! Plus 24 month warranty!! Ohhhh I have already made some mods. And NO, I will not part with my beloved Popper. Its just great around town. http://p1.bikepics.com/pics/2010/05/28/bikepics-1985232-800.jpg |
Title: Re: Looking at new bikes Post by Oldfeller on 05/28/10 at 19:21:41 It is amazing to me how many of us own bigger bikes yet still ride the S40 in town because it just does it better than the bigger bikes. The Savage -- the world's best get around town bike !! |
