Title: Re: soccer Post by photojoe on 06/11/10 at 14:05:59 I'll be watching some of it, as I enjoy waking up late on my days off. Watching the footies while sipping coffee would be a nice way to start the day. I like soccer/football/futbol (whatever you want to call it). I watch a lot of it when I'm in Central America. Hey Mick, I'm sure you remember this guy: http://www.brianclough.com/cloughmobbed.jpg Recently saw a very good film about his life, called Dam(n) United: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1226271/ |

do you mean a real sport like "rugby" yes that is a little tame. But American football ,give me a break ,so much padding on they can hardly move, then they play a game where the actuel playing time is anywhere from 6 to 11 minutes per game ,then a good 30 minutes of commercials pre game crap, post game crap you got all of four hours for a 9 minute game, briliant ! Me I'm rooting for the old sod,the last time England won was the year I left 1967. I don't think the US will ever win in my life time.I would like to see it because I would like to see the game get more popular.. Another thing I like about soccer ,anyone can play it,you don't have to be a 250 pound black giant, just have to be very nimble footed . I hope both teams put up a good show tomorrow.Good luck USA |
Title: Re: soccer Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/12/10 at 03:20:35 Bread & circuses. Rarely do I watch any sports. Bread & circuses. Keeps the dumb masses placated. Bread & circuses. Watch this, watch this, be passionate about THIS, OHH but please, pay no attention to who is doing what that actually matters. Bread & circuses, DOnt Matter. |
Title: Re: soccer Post by mikelhsr1982 on 06/12/10 at 06:53:56 Soccer is fun to play, but like most sports I think it is boring to watch; well maybe with the exception of nascar. |
Title: Re: soccer Post by jef.savage on 06/12/10 at 07:14:40 NASCAR??? Nascar is the most boring sport with engines! |
Title: Re: soccer Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/12/10 at 07:21:27 I think drifting is pretty tiresome to watch. Nascar puts me to sleep in about 30 minutes, pretty much of a tie w/ golf & yacht racing,,, yaaawn,, I keep a tape of golf & yacht racing, for when I cant sleep. Just a few minutes & whammo,, lights out.. |

Title: Re: soccer Post by mick on 06/12/10 at 15:23:53 What a perfect result for my family, England 1 USA 1 great score, both winners.I hope a few of you watched because USA held England to a draw, England were favorites, I think the US played very well in the first half, and UKs goalie fu*ked up.Anyway I really enjoyed it. I had forgotten how much I missed the game. :'( |
Title: Re: soccer Post by forrest on 06/12/10 at 15:29:37 Watched the game. If it wasn't for those darn horns they kept blowing it would have made a perfect sport to nap to. |

I enjoy soccer as there are a lot of skills that go on in the run of play;but, american that I am, i would like to see some more scoring. ;D Maybee they should have to pull the goalie for 10 minutes every half. ;D ;D I think whichever colored pill Mr. Green (no relation, I have the redundent e) took to relax him was a bit stronger than he realized..what a lackadazical effort on the worlds biggest stage. It will haunt him till his dying day unless he makes some great saves to keep old blighty going forward. Mick, the split personality becomes you. |

I usually prefer bourbon by the gallons when I ride. Thanks for checking up on me though. Had a hell of a ride today too! Too bad it was in the 90's and humid as sh!t.. Title: Re: soccer Post by jef.savage on 06/12/10 at 17:03:20 OK. I turned it on and watched. If you figure about 30 seconds of meaningful action for each goal (and that's being generous) and another 30 for the couple of close misses, that's about two minutes of action. The rest is just running back and forth. That puts it a full seven minutes behind the nine minutes that Mick gave American football. Those horns are really annoying. |
Title: Re: soccer Post by earlytimz on 06/12/10 at 17:20:56 From where I was sitting, I could only see the soccer game if I turned around on my stool. The TV facing me was on college lacrosse... Sh!t, same friggin game but only with sticks. Screw that... I resorted to waitress watching, now that's a sport I really enjoy playing!!! |
Title: Re: soccer Post by Trippah on 06/12/10 at 18:56:40 Yes, as the old song puts it.."Standing on the corner watching all the girls go by" etc..the oldest and still the best game in town. If only I could figure out how to score! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ |
Title: Re: soccer Post by earlytimz on 06/12/10 at 19:37:32 LMAO!! Yeah, that mystifies us all! I guess it's like playing golf alone... You never really win, you just try to do better every time you play... |
Title: Re: soccer Post by kimchris1 on 06/12/10 at 20:02:01 Well had I been home, I might have watched some of the game. I do enjoy soccer, football, nascar, baseball and hockey.. Title: Re: soccer Post by JohnBoy on 06/13/10 at 20:45:31 Mick, I actually like "football" I think it is perhaps the best overall "sport" that I have seen. In the 70's I was a season ticket holder for the old North American league Tampa Rowdies. Our star player was one of your countrymen Rodney Marsh. The team was mostly Brits and South Africans. We even had two Americans. I got to see several English teams including Manchester United and Coventry. The best overall team that I saw was Moscow's Red Army team. I even got to see Pele when he came to play for New York. Oh!...and I would love to see England and Germany in the final. |
Title: Re: soccer Post by bill67 on 06/14/10 at 04:26:38 those soccer players aren't to smart,If they didn't get under where the ball is coming down they wouldn't get hit in the head. :o |

Title: Re: soccer Post by Jimmer on 06/14/10 at 05:57:03 Just one of those soccer nuts. I been involved with this game for 50 plus years. This is truly the only world wide championship sporting event. Every country has the opportunity to qualify a team and go to the FIFA matches. Whether you like soccer you have to admire the skill and stamina of these players. There is also some really good acting jobs put on by some players, a little bump and there dying.Remember this is a non contact sport( yea right).About the England/US match great game. This just proves good play and a little luck make it eventful. This was almost as good as a win for the USA. Thanks for your time reading my opinion. |
Title: Re: soccer Post by bill67 on 06/14/10 at 06:05:14 I would say tennis is the most world wide sport and the players are the fastest and quickest runners. |
Title: Re: soccer Post by Jimmer on 06/14/10 at 07:52:09 Tennis maybe world wide, but there has never been a chance for all nations to have a team in major competition . As for speed I think soccer requires great stamina and continual running, along with speed, when the play dictates it. Having played both sports, I found soccer to be tough and tennis to drain me more emotionally, that physically. To much thinking for me in tennis. Come to think of it I'm pretty well spent after both. Tennis is considered a gentlemen s game. Soccer is a hooligans game played by gentlemen or is it a gentlemen s game played by hooligans. Who really cares, you either like it or you don't. |

Title: Re: soccer Post by dasch on 06/14/10 at 11:59:28 I'm not a football (soccer) fan, but if you haven't tried to play it - you have no clue how much running players must endure during 90mins. TV shows only a cluster of players around the ball, had you seen it in flesh or played a game you would get it - they all run to reposition almost all the time. Only brake they get is for outs and fouls, and even then - they run to reposition. Unlike american footbal where they run 10 yards, fall, everything stops, they huddle, line up, chit chat for a while, and there we go again... No offence guys. |
Title: Re: soccer Post by Jimmer on 06/14/10 at 18:11:38 Mick Each team got one point in the standings for the tie. Know matter what the out come, this was a great match to watch. I did not mean to upset you. What I should have said was, to achieve a tie with England was a great pick me up for the our soccer programs. To be considered on a even keel with English soccer is a complement to these players, even if for only a short time. Glad to see there some soccer fans among we Savage riders. Well put dasch this game is about constant movement. |

Title: Re: soccer Post by Edgar on 06/16/10 at 02:16:41 Im a typical American boy that grew up with baseball and American football. But its a shame more Americans dont follow the world cup. The BIGGEST and most important sporting event in the world, i mean it makes the super bowl look like such a minuscule event! The best thing about it is the purity of it. Its almost the same game it was 100 years ago even with all our technological advances. And the best part of the world cup is that its all for pride. For one month its all for your Flag and not your wallet. Im NOT knocking anyone who doesnt like soccer, not at all, i barely got into it during the 2006 Cup. But how many chances do you get like this to root for your country on such a grand scale! thats what hooked me in! HELLUVA game to keep England at 1 goal though!!
