Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by bill67 on 06/12/10 at 19:19:34 Now if they just took of the fenders, scape the paint off,Put a bicycle seat on.That would make .001% of the motorcyclists happy.Oh and wrap up the chrome pipes with some baby drapers. |

Interesting conversion, and definitely one you will not see on a regular basis given the immediate reduction in value of the bike, but it looks good, and if it were given to me I wouldn't hesitate to ride it ;D |

It's big market out there... |
Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by Midnightrider on 06/13/10 at 04:24:34 Piss me off some more Mick LOL. Bobbers are OK I guess but I wouldnt own a bike I couldnt strap a leather jacket or rainsuit to the back. Just not practical for the type of riding I do. On the other hand cafe racers fit my lifestyle, all day rides on crooked mountain roads. If I ever get my health back I will own a Triumph Thruxton. |

Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by WD on 06/13/10 at 07:29:19 Different strokes for different folks, right? I've got a project 1957 Harley barhopper (some would say bobber, and they would be wrong) Panhead I'm resto-modding. I've got a Honda project cafe racer meets dirt tracker, AND belong to the Do The Ton cafe racer forums. And I have Pokey, my 98 Savage turned I'm not sure what to call it with full rear (and soon to have full front) fender, small saddlebags, apehangers, small fuel tank older than the bike (or me to be honest), Bates/Lucas style sidemount headlight... I really like the Triumph with springer front end. Compact, lighter weight, hardtail conversion for lower center of gravity and better handling, thick solo seat and springs for a bit of padding... Add a better rear fender and some kind of front spray skirt and ride the bejeezuz out of that one. Perfect for the mountain roads around here. At least the wannabes are moving on to fancy garbage barges (full dress HDs). Leaves real bikes for the rest of us. And there is nothing wrong with that Honda (except the 2 extra cylinders, single or twins only for me, thank you very much). |
Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/13/10 at 07:58:50 I really like the Triumph with springer front end. Please, feel free to post pics of that. Loves me some springers & always wanted a Triumph. I thot the guy in Odessa was gonna start chargin merent for standing around in his shop. |
Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by mick on 06/13/10 at 12:52:55 I shall dip in my bag and see what comes out. http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr311/mickrowe37/img1440ol5.jpg http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr311/mickrowe37/BSA20Goldstar20DBD34201956_jpg-1.jpg here is one of me on my little Ducati circa 1959. http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr311/mickrowe37/ScannedImage003-1.jpg and the origional Cafe racer, this bike was called thr "Boy racer" it's a 350 AJS it was later nick named the cafe racer, and it stuck to bikes with this general discription. And the Ace cafe in London kept the the thing alive with juke box music. you all know thay story I'm sure. http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr311/mickrowe37/2020AJS207R.jpg |
Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by BurnPgh on 06/13/10 at 14:39:13 Diggin the BSA single. Not so much the twin (is that also BSA?). The AJS is nice but I think would look better with the same tank only in smaller dimensions. Im trying to talk one of my coworkers into making her cm400 into a cafe racer. |
Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by Savage_Amusement on 06/13/10 at 15:47:41 About the only thing that keeps these from being a bobber is the seats. Other than that they have different bars, powder coated/painted parts and have been slimmed down for weight. HMMMMM. |
Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by Trippah on 06/13/10 at 16:01:07 Vincent has/had the most beutiful motorcycle engine ever built (in my humble opinion). |

Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by srinath on 06/14/10 at 07:18:34 I like cafe bikes as well as choppers. But for me some bikes are tailor made to be cafe'd, and some tailor made to be chopped. Sadly I think too many people chop a bike that is tailor made to be a cafe - an oft abused example is an XS650 and they cafe a bike that would be easy to chop and my friend is cafeing an 82 maxim 650. The savage being cafe'd too just is wrong, IMHO, however it does have the single cyl motor that lends well into the cafe thing. Cool. Srinath. |

Title: Re: No Bobbers here Post by Savage_Amusement on 06/14/10 at 12:47:01 Wow thanks for that reach of the imagination. Those two are NOTHING alike. I just compared the SEATS being different, then put what the TWO share in common.. |
