Title: Coupla Thumpa's Post by jef.savage on 06/14/10 at 15:03:14 These were at Laconia. The demos hadn't arrived yet so I didn't get to try one. http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y343/jefscoville/bike%20week%202010/re2.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y343/jefscoville/bike%20week%202010/re1.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y343/jefscoville/bike%20week%202010/re3.jpg |

Title: Re: Coupla Thumpa's Post by Serowbot on 06/14/10 at 18:25:29 I like the second one,... with the solo seat and two-tone paint... Purdy... :-*... |
Title: Re: Coupla Thumpa's Post by John_D FSO on 06/14/10 at 18:26:01 Yeah, I'd heard they used to have reliability issues, but that since they started using outside suppliers for some of the electrical and other stuff, they were doing better. Or wait, maybe I'm thinking of Urals? :-? |
Title: Re: Coupla Thumpa's Post by Southpaw on 06/14/10 at 19:38:29 Unique headlight to a classic style! Always liked the looks of the Enfields and the Ridleys. |

Title: Re: Coupla Thumpa's Post by LANCER on 06/15/10 at 04:20:09 They reengineered the engine and electrical and "supposedly" fixed those reliability issues. Time will tell. I sure like their look though. They have tones of accessory parts available...ever look at their online catalog ? |
Title: Re: Coupla Thumpa's Post by kimchris1 on 06/15/10 at 06:17:47 These bikes are soo cool... I like the 2 tone paint as well. I would except one to my stable if presented with one.. ;) |

I used to hang out on their forum. The main US importer spends ( or did) a good bit of time there. You can mod one for looks & performance. You dont even void the warranty by installing a performance kit. The looks kits they have are really nice & they can be made to perform ( it is a thumper & not as big as the Savage, so, stay withing the realm of reality in your expectations) pretty well. If theyve got their Lean Burn engine worked out, then a modern one mite just be a nice little ride. Ill stick W the Savage & the W. |
Title: Re: Coupla Thumpa's Post by bill67 on 06/15/10 at 08:34:30 They sale Enfields and Urals about 20 miles from me but I never went there to look at them,A solo Ural goes for $6000. |

Title: Re: Coupla Thumpa's Post by mick on 06/15/10 at 19:58:06 nice looking bikes, RE used to be cheap and cheerful back in the UK you could pick up ex Army REs for 50 pounds, to me the Enfields back then handled very bad , cornering at any speed felt like trying to steer a plate of jello ,in the rain it was better to walk and push the bloody thing. My buddy Colin had one (my bosses son) we had just finished a morning of racing at the old disused airdrome,as we left for home ,I yelled last one home buys the beer, off we go he on his enfield me on my 250cc Rudge 4 valve single a little flying machine, just as we turned onto the main highway it started to rain,I thought I got him, sure enough by the time the rain stoped I had him by a half a mile. But to rub salt into his wounds I would try to bet him by a mile, I came upon one of my favorite turns so I layed my trust rudge into the turn,i had to use a little bit of the oncoming lane because of a metal manhole cover, unfortunatly a car was using it ,so I had to duck in and I couldn't miss the steel cover, sure enough down we went doing about 70 we started sliding and we hit a dry spot that made me go flying upright , and it was about that time I was launched into the air on the high side ,I remember being upside down in mid air wondering if this was my last moment on earth, it's amazing but all this sh1t take a split second and seems like it's in slo mo. I then thought Oh sh1t I'm gonna land on my buddy, but no ,I landed on my shoulders and the back of my head,my helmet was scraped flat.,my buddy came around the bend on the crawl,he almost fell off just looking at my bike and me, but I picked her up bent the handle bars back a bit , same with foot peg and rode her home ,and I still beat the Royal Enfield. like the old saying goes," they dont make bikes like they used to" Thank god. sorry it was so long. |
Title: Re: Coupla Thumpa's Post by mick on 06/15/10 at 20:22:24 this is the rudge I had at that time ,not the exact one but just like it. http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr311/mickrowe37/Rudge-250-1939-TS.jpg |
