Title: No Escaping Road Construction Today!!!
Post by Southpaw on 06/14/10 at 18:59:54

I tried real hard to put in a few hundred miles today with my full pack mounted, but every interstate I traveled had miles of dead stop traffic. I44 around Six Flags, I55 south of St. Louis, Even my workarounds had detours! It really put the truckers in a wonderful mood.  ::) Rode from 10:30 to 3:30 and only put in 135 miles. two of my routes were parts of the trip next week. I hope it travels better then or I might as well just trailer the darn thing to Tennessee! :P At least the weather was clear! Got my first "sunburned hands" of the year! (Never have been able to figure that one out!) Oh well, at least I'm riding!

Heh, in Michigan we have two seasons...Nine month of winter and three months of orange barrel road constriction.  :(

Its a conspeeersee I tell ya!

You know things are outta whack when following a detour sign, ya get detoured. Sometimes I think the people in charge have a wicked sense of humor.

I think that's what was setting the truckers off! They were being real... well you know, singing this theme song...

When you are doing construction on a major interstate, common sense tells you you'll have more traffic on the outer roads and business loops around them. The only reason I could see doing both at the same time is if the same contractor got both jobs and needed his equipment (surfacers, etc.) in one general location to get done on time. If I were the supervisor for the state or had my business on one of those loops I'd be screaming right now!!! Looking back, I still had a nice ride, I just wish them enough speed to be out of my way in a week or I'm going to have to think about rerouting my trip again.  :-/

Here's another soundtrack to sing along with while you're stuck in construction.  I remember hearing this on Bob & Tom when they still carried the show here:
