Title: Suzuki Savage-Yamaha Key
Post by gerald.hughes on 06/19/10 at 14:27:21

I just lost the key to my Savage, and so took the back-up key to the local locksmith to get a couple more made up.  While there, I found out something interesting.  After searching for the key blank for about a half an hour, the locksmith came out and apologized for the delay, and told me that the reason that it had taken his so long is that the blank is actually a Yamaha key.  I wonder who makes the seat?

Scavenger Hunt anyone?

Correct key found by just minutes, walking distance!

The Yamaha may be close enough to fit.

No, I just did the same as gerald.hughes ...   just lost the key to my Savage, and so took the back-up key to the local locksmith.    Except that I have about 20,000,000 neighbors, one of which being a locksmith of 40 years, one who knew the correct key.

As for happen had find the key?  One of my better ideas, about 23 years ago:

Bought a 18"x24" framed corkboard and mounted just near the front door.  Added about a dozen cuphooks to hold Keys.  Spares, car keys, keys that you will be wanted to found 5 yerars later.  When *I* lost my motorcycle keys it was at Work!!  I knew Wendy to find the correct key.

Since I have reached the stage of encroaching senility, I give a spare set of keys to a friend.  It has saved my bacon on more than one occasion, especially since this is the friend with  the trailer who comes to pick up the bike when it dies.

I can actually use my Savage key to turn on my old XS650.  Not sure about the other way around.
