Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by Skid Mark on 06/23/10 at 19:19:42 What happened???? |
|
Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by Serowbot on 06/23/10 at 19:52:35 Somethin' electrical,... It'll start in neutral, but dies as soon you put it in gear... I'm thinkin', one of the safety cut-outs, but jiggling didn't fix it, so I was a pushin.... Clutch lever, kickstand, neutral... probably the neutral... My legs is jelly....... :-?.... |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by Skid Mark on 06/23/10 at 20:06:00 That really sucks!!! 108 is like a blast furnace. At least you were not too far out and stranded. A couple of beers and I bet you got the issue resolved. |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by kimchris1 on 06/23/10 at 20:11:40 Hope you get the problem figured out and fixed shortly. Wow 108 is HOT... We finally hit 75 here today. First day for 75 in over 220 days. |

Well you're fried, take 2 beers and look at it in the morning. clutch lever... not, it started. neutral... not, it started. Both of these have to be "on" to start with the kickstand down. tick, tick, tick, bing most likely kickstand. I assume you had it down to start, then put it up to go. You did put it up before you put it in gear didn't you? |
|
Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by Serowbot on 06/23/10 at 22:51:19 Kickstand was up to start,... in neutral, with clutch lever in... Started fine... click into first,... and die....... May not get to check her out for a couple of days,... but, appreciate any ideas... When I start checking... I'll move to the Rubberside... O.K.,... since we're in the cafe... How far have you pushed your bike?... |
|
Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by verslagen1 on 06/23/10 at 23:40:39 w/o aid of gravity? 10 yards no aid or interference... about the same. w/aid of gravity... about a mile. |

Couple hundred yards to get to a place I could put the truck in a ditch so the angle to push the bike up into the bed would be better. Did it last Saturday. |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/24/10 at 04:56:06 YOure in better shape than I, Ol Man. No way I coulda found the oomph to shove a bike that far. Lucky YOU didnt throw a rod in that kinda heat, & on a road? Crazy, man. |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by skatnbnc on 06/24/10 at 05:32:12 I pushed mine about 100 yards in 102 heat and humidity, sweating and cussing the entire time. In full gear (I did take my helmet off). Thank the stars above for the nice couple from Ohio who pulled over with their trailer and loaded Suzi up for a trip to the gas station. Note to self - adjust the distance that "Reserve" can get you before the next gas station.... ;) |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by babyhog on 06/24/10 at 08:31:19 You are da man! That's a long way to push a bike, of any weight! He!l, that's a long way for me to walk, pushing nothing! LOL If my bike died any more than 1/2 mile from my house, I'd almost have to trailer it. Too many curves/gravel on side of road/impossible places to go while pushing a bike..... not to mention the one-lane tunnel in one direction. I hate to even walk through that thang (running is possible on a green light) Now go get her fixed! |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by T Mack 1 - FSO on 06/24/10 at 12:07:16 Pushed my Savage about two or three blocks when I was playing with jets and went too far. I did a big "around the block" (about 5 miles) then went to do it again and spit ... sputter .... blah.... Slightly up hill, but only in the low 90's, but east coast humidity... yuk. |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by cursal on 06/24/10 at 19:40:43 I've pushed about a mile from home. I had a faulty petcock and was running Suzi in prime so I just ran out.... Didn't look into the tank until I had drained the battery :-/ Earned some good experience points on that adventure. Weather was early Spring so temp was mild but still in full gear. |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by runwyrlph on 06/26/10 at 08:03:06 serowbot, did you ever find out the problem? |

No,.. not yet... Haven't had time to check it out... ... and it's still so darn hot.... Logic is telling me it's the kickstand switch... I'll check that first... I've dealt with 6 of these bikes,... I've had three problems related to vacuum petcock, and two to the clutch switch cut-out, ... and now this... Other than squeaks and rattle repairs (speedo, headlight, belt, front pulley nut), and fuel system clogs, from bikes sitting too long,... 100% of mechanical failures have been related to "safety" equipment... I'm going to do some bypassing.... breakdowns do not equal safe... :-?... |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by runwyrlph on 06/26/10 at 10:20:38 yeah- the fact that it dies when you put in gear sounds like kill switch to me. this is the time of year when you're jealous of PA weather (sunny, 82) , right? ;D |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by forrest on 06/26/10 at 13:51:32 I had to push mine up a steep grade, in cool weather, and I thought I was going to have a stroke. Odd how heavy that bike can get; can't imagine pushing a V-twin. |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by Skid Mark on 06/26/10 at 16:57:31 Forrest: They are a lot harder to push. Just getting my C50 in and out of the garage is takes more grunt. |

Title: Re: Oh Booga!!!... Post by Serowbot on 06/27/10 at 16:18:51 UPDATE!.... The kickstand switch checked out okay,... but, it had lost contact at the connector (green 2-wire) under the seat... Cleaned the contacts, and she's good to go... ;)... Now, I just wish it would get below a 100' degrees... :'(... Shouldn't complain though,... I see on the weather, it's darn hot a lot of places... Stay cool everybody!... :)... |
