Title: More American women choosing not having children:
Post by Starlifter on 06/28/10 at 20:34:04

Source: Reuters

More American women are choosing not to have children than three decades ago, according to a new report.

Nearly 20 percent of older women do not have children, compared to 10 percent in the 1970s, the Pew Research Center said.

"In recent decades, social pressure to play traditional roles has lessened in a broad variety of ways and there is more leeway for individual choice. This could play a part in lowering pressure for people to get married and bear children," said D'Vera Cohn, a co-author of the report.

Women have more options than in the past to build strong careers and to exercise the choice not to have children.

**********************************************

Good on them! (No children in our house by choice.)

We're exceeding the carrying capacity of the earth. And yet the media glorifys morons like "Octamom" and the Dugans for breeding like crazed weasels.

...Call it what you want. I call it stupid AND selfish.

Oh well, more cannon fodder for our future resource wars.

Yea, but congestion isnt over population, its just too many in a confined area. Catch a plane & have a look, we got LOADS of room. The eugenicists would love to have you convinced to depopulate yourselves.

Same here, no kids, yet.

I guess I'm being kinda selfish but
also it's the fact that the second they're
born they take them away, tag'em,
dna/fingerprint'em and forcefully shoot
them full of poison and then take them
away AGAIN so they can brainwash them,
drug them and feed them SH1T for 12 years
in the broken useless school system and so on.

Kids today don't have a chance, soooo much wasted potential.    :-/

Us clever, independent thinkers have to at least maintain replacement levels (2.1 children per woman per lifetime average) or the planet will be taken over by the religious crazies.

Besides, they start out s-o-o-o-o-o-o cute!

Women aren't the only ones choosing this, as others have already mentioned.  My wife and I both are pretty firmly set against having kids, much to her grandmother's dismay.  We're not really sure if that will change, either.

We've kicked around the idea of adopting, but eh... currently neither of us are ready to make the lifestyle changes that having a kid (birthed or adopted) would require, so we're not doing either one.

The unfortunate part is that it's only the educated and sophisticated people who are going childless.

The morons, welfare dependents, and bottom of the rung people are still breeding like rabbits.

Eventually, they'll run out of those who feed them.

to quote from a book i read; demographics is a game of last man standing. the majority in kindergarden today are the adults in the not to distant future. look closely at France, Italy, Spain, Germany and most of Europe. They are not having children but are saddled with social programs that require high employment. Enter large numbers of immigrants who aren't always eager to put aside thier culture and adopt the ways of their new home. (yes, I'm talking about Muslims moving into old-Europe)
Listen to over-population nonsense at your own peril.

Not only are they soooo cute, but cudly too..almost like a cat or dog.

I don't worry about overpopulation or if its turning brown, red, white or like me grey, christian or muslim. I'll be long dead before the sh*t realy hits the fan.  I do have faith; however, that the four horsemen are saddled and out riding, they just recently made a practice run with aids and ebola.  They have the nukes in their saddlebags and religion (tip o' the hat to Mick) to use as starters and finishers.
This is why we have motorcycles, they break down frequently enough we can focus on the close at hand. ;D

I am happy to say I have 2 wonderful grown children and 3 grandchildren. They have and continue to bring enjoyment in my life.

I don't begrude anyone that chooses not to have children. We in America are fortunate to have the right to choose whether to ir not to have children. I do believe that if you do decide to have children, then you should be prepared to take care of all their needs and not be dependent on the government or anyone else to do so.
Just think had my parents chosen not to have me, their would be one less Suzuki rider on the road... ;)

I'm with Jerry and drharveys, the wellfare
systems are F'ing crazy, who thought of these?!
and how on earth they never considered they
would be totally abused, jeez!

And I do want kids (but two are enough),
i almost feel it's kinda my duty to have some.

But as a parent I think your one and only
duty/challenge is to make sure that your
child has at least as good a life, health,
education and chances than the parents did
and I just don't see how this is possible today.

Then again nothing in life is a sure thing
...except death and taxes, and bailouts  :D

LBJ & his "Greeeeat Suhsightee". That bastard shoulda been shot before he got out of Texas. & that horrid thing he was married to, UGHHH, she makes me sick to this day. Dont believe that was HIS thinking, tho, naaah, he had Advisors & Policy decision makers, just like weve had for decades. That these POlicy Decision makers are all interested in the ruin of the country is of no social or political imoprt, now.. relax.

You get right down to it, and the world needs more slow people than smart ones anyway...
You don't need a doctorate to pick lettuce, pluck chickens, or fix a pothole,... but we need those things more than a market analysis, or legal advice...
... and when your water line is broke, you need a guy that's good with a shovel... no computer program can replace him...

Viva la undereducated!... ;)...

"I almost feel it's kinda my duty to have some."

This is do to cultural expectations, pressure from peers and parents, and the old and deeply ingrained agrarian tradition of needing big strapping sons to work the farm. There is also the human longing to touch immortality by passing our genes (in essence a part of ourselves) forever into the future.

ditto Kim

Having kids has greatly enriched my life and made me a better person

I could take or leave having kids, but I'm poor so I won't have any and I hate church because they are so focused on family that when I go to one I feel completely left out.
