Title: Cry of the Valkyrie... Post by Serowbot on 07/01/10 at 19:51:20 A friend of mine is fixing up a wrecked Valkyrie... After some serious reassembling,.. he couldn't get her to start. ....and, after much frustration he finally found the culprit. Apparently, the Valkyrie has a "bank angle sensor", designed to kill the engine if the bike goes too far over... Don't install that puppy upside-down.... :-/... Whodda' thunk'd?...:-?... http://www.2020autogallery.com/2020applications/uploads/m_03_honda_valkyrie_1.jpg |

Title: Re: Cry of the Valkyrie... Post by jef.savage on 07/02/10 at 05:44:30 Yeah, that's one hot Honda. The Can-Am Spyder has a sensor that slows the engine if you try to corner too fast. |
Title: Re: Cry of the Valkyrie... Post by Charon on 07/02/10 at 05:59:16 Never having had one, I can't be sure. But many Honda Gold Wings and apparently Valkyries had a bank angle sensor. It was supposed to kill the engine if the bike went down. Worked, too. But every so often someone would get a bike leaned over too far in a parking lot at low speed. The bank angle sensor would work as advertised and kill the engine. The resulting loss of power would cause the bike to go down. Honda had a recall on at least some of the sensors for that problem. My brother tells me his Kawasaki Mean Streak has a sensor of some sort that apparently kills the engine when the bike is dropped. The bike will then not restart until the ignition is turned off and back on. Based on that limited information, I surmise that a lot of bikes may have such a sensor. Perusal of the owner's manual might be in order. The Can-Am Spyder is advertised as having electronic stability control and ABS, and is supposed to keep its operators from skidding or overturning. It also has power steering, which is tied into the stability control. And it has a single brake control - the foot pedal. |
Title: Re: Cry of the Valkyrie... Post by prechermike on 07/02/10 at 06:01:39 My buddy rode a Valkyrie when we did our beach ride last month. It was a nice bike, pretty and shiny. He even washed it before we left. ;D I sat on it and it had a nice seat, wide like mine. I liked the box on the back to put your helment and other stuff in. But when he started telling me about the SIX carbuterators and such, I knew it was not the bike for me. I am really liking the simpleness of the savage (and the simpleness of the rider)! |
Title: Re: Cry of the Valkyrie... Post by prsavage on 07/04/10 at 07:52:12 My wife's 2005 Suzuki C50 has a sensor like that. We found out when she fell over at a stop light wheb her foot slipped out on an oil spot. Had to switch it off then back on to restart. |

Title: Re: Cry of the Valkyrie... Post by Phelonius on 07/04/10 at 13:54:04 Let's see now, Valkyrie- oh yea, a fat dead German girl. Why would anyone name a bike after one of those? Phelonius |

The St. Louis Symphony had a Wagner night -- they played the Ride of the Valkeries and all that kept running through my mind was "Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit!" That at least was fun, but after the intermission they did some duet that lasted for about two weeks, subjective time. Reminded me of the quote: "Wagner wrote some of the most beautiful moments in music -- and some of the longest half hours in between!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yxiv3CBMS4M |
