Title: Clutch actuator broke Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/12/10 at 02:27:07 SIL was out & called. Asked what he should do. I went & checked it out. Grabbed the Big Chrome arm the cable attaches to. One hand, swung it up & down. Busted..TRailered it home. Gotta see how bad its hurt inside. The busted part locked the motor. At idle,,thankfully. |

Title: Re: Clutch actuator broke Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/12/10 at 02:57:57 I'm hopin its just ouch & not OUCH. Im a bit worried that the case got cracked. Found some oil dripped in the trailer. Looked uder & didnt see a lump & couldnt find where the oil was coming from. These actuators are simply not dependable. & No, my clutch wasnt outside the "lines". |
Title: Re: Clutch actuator broke Post by Max_Morley on 07/12/10 at 08:55:57 On mine the cam that the lever works against cracked and prevented clutch operation. It is a cast piece and if it separated could end up in the gears for the clutch. Mine stayed together until I opened it up. Good luck. Max |

Title: Re: Clutch actuator broke Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/12/10 at 11:33:59 Thanks a bunch, Bot. You know Im no puter guy & I woulda been frustrated hunting that up. I spent 5 bux more, just to not have to order online. It was worth it to me. Now, I gotta get a new gasket...Ill do that locally & give a guy I like some bizniss. Got it apart. Dont see any damage, but I havent yet taken a light & really looked at it. I will, when Im more emotionally prepared to deal with bad news, tho, I doubt theres a problem, since it happened at idle & the SIL was d/shifting from 2nd to 1st./ It did make a grinding racket, then a thunk, & shut the engine down. Ill have to have a close look.. No sign of metal in the oil on a quick look. Ill drag a magnet thru it tho. OIl is only a hundred or so miles old. |
Title: Re: Clutch actuator broke Post by Serowbot on 07/12/10 at 12:11:40 The grinding he heard may have been nothing more than the result of trying to shift from 2nd to 1st without the clutch actuating... Not necessarily a broken part catching... If the pieces look in tact, I wouldn't worry about it too much... I'd pull the spark plug and see if the bike will roll relatively smoothly in 5th gear... |
Title: Re: Clutch actuator broke Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/12/10 at 14:19:28 Gave that some thot, too, Bot. Im havin a real prob gettin focused right now. Ill look at the bits & see if theres any damage on them. If not, Im just not gonna sweat it much. Most likely, Ill toss it back together & run it. Not to tickled with this kind of problem. A bit of a hazard IMO. Im having visions of a for sale sign. |
